Being on the wrong side of the world, I don't get to see much Engrish locally. But thanks to Japanese used car imports I get to see the occasional gibberish - I remember when I used to work in a supermarket on weekends there was often a Toyota Rav 4 with "Preserve Nature" written on the spare tyre cover - I've seen a few other SUVs with similar non-sensical tree-hugging hippy crap on them too. And let's not forget the actual names of some of the cars - here's some of the stupid ones I've seen around here:

    - Toyota Corolla II Super Windy
    - Mazda Bongo Brawny and Bongo Friendee (yes, that is how it was spellt)
    - Isuzu MU (Mysterious Utility)
    - Mitsubishi Pajero Exceed
    - Mitsubishi Chariot (if you know how lame a Mitsubishi Space Wagon is, you'll know how funny this is)
    - And of course, let's not forget Daihatsu's good ol' Charade and Applause - the benchmark of silly car names

hehehe, yeah I have a good laugh at some of the car names they have over here. My car is an EK Wagon but it's not even a wagon :D EK could mean anything as well. Here'sa few funny names I see day to day

Daihatsu - Naked (looks pretty cool really as if it's all pre-production pannels)
    Daihatsu - Jimmy
    Suzuki - Lapin
    Suzuki - Arena
Subaru - R2 (I'm trying to resist writing D2 with a marker on one :D)
Honda - Step WGN (pronounced Honda Step Wagon) Cheap shite
    Honda - Life
AutoZam - Town Bee (Small company)
Suzuki - Big Horn (4x4 car)
Nissan - Raseen (looks like a boat on wheels)
Mitsubishi - Pajero Mini (Smallest Pajaro)
Mitsubish - Pajero Jr. (2nd to smallest Pajaro)
Toyota - Fun Car Go ! :)D I love that name)
Toyota - Noha ( think it's by Toyota. This is a type of people carrier)

    There are loads more too.

lol yeah, I really want one of those cars! Just to say "i have a Daihatsu Naked" ^_^

It's actually "Jimny", which makes even less sense o_O

Autozam was a brand that Mazda used to use on some of their small cars, along with Eunos and Efini. They stopped using their other brands in the mid-late 90's IIRC. I see a few Autozam Revues and Pressos around here, actually.
Thems are Isuzus, actually. It's called the Trooper in countries with non-stupid car names.

Damn, I forgot about half the stupid Nissan names - there's loads of them! Cedric, Laurel, Cube Cubic, President, etc.

lol, you make it sound even more stupid than it really is! It's the Fun Cargo. Though they gave it a boring name over here though - the Yaris Verso.
There's also the Toyota Corolla Runx (what the fook a "Runx" is supposed to be is beyond me), and the Toyota Opa (which is "grandfather" in German).

I think I've seen the worst mutilation of the English language yet yesterday. We have some builder around our house this week to knock down a wall, and he has an import Toyota Toyoace (which confusingly is identical to a Dyna, and they also sell Dynas in Japan too  ), and there's a sticker on the back saying "フルジャストロー" on the back. That's the English words "Full Just Low" written in katakana. Yes. Full Just Low.

    This is true...

This was renamed Mitsubishi - Montero in Spain... pajero means wanker in spanish. Imagine what kind of adds/jokes you could do with the original name.

Yeah, I know but on the TV add the actually write Fun-Car-Go ! :happyhap: Bloody funny name that. Did you know that the Nisan Micra in Japan is called the Nisan March? Also the brand new Nissan small car in Japan (Forgot the name) is actually the Mitsubishi EK Wagon that I have with just a different name. It even still has the Mitsubishi mark on the engine !! The reason for this is because Mitsubishi had some really bad luck with car problems the last few years so the Japanese don't want to buy their cars anymore eventhough they are now fine. So Mitsubishi did a deal with Nissan so that Nissan would sell Mitsubishi's EK Wagons under the Nissan brand. The only difference between the Nissan one and mine are the logos inside the car and out side. It's a shame really because Mitsubishi cars are very sleek in design. I really like them along with Toyota. Never been much of a fan of Nissan of Honda really.

PS: I think we've gone off topic :p

Yeah, there's about 1 March for every 2 Micras I see over here - even one of my friends here has a March ^_^. Japanese imports have been pretty common in Ireland since the 80's, mainly because we're also right-hand-drive, used Japanese cars are dirt cheap (and the 80's was recession-tastic here, so we were dirt poor), and Japanese spec cars tend to have stuff that hasn't really become standard in normal European cars (i.e. not Mercs and BMWs) until the late '90s, like electric windows, ACs and stuff.

Some imports are left pretty intact as well - many still have those parking disc sticker things on the rear windscreens (the blue and white things), and some weird stickers on the front windscreens (these things usually behind the rear-view mirror, with numbers and kanji on them - what the hell are they?), and a lot still have the original dealer stickers on them too! The cars I see around here usually seem to be from Aichi and Gifu, but I've seen some from all over the place - Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, even Sapporo and Satsuma. My Kanji sucks though, so I can't read the place names on the dealer stickers written in Japanese (the only placenames I know in Kanji are Tokyo and Kyoto).

Yeah, this seems to be happening quite a bit in recent years. Nissan have had serious profit issues (i.e. the lack of any) in recent years, though after Renault bought out like half of the company they seem to be getting better - Mitsubishi Motors have also been in pretty bad shit of late - so I wouldn't be surprised that they're cutting corners like selling each others' cars under two different brands, much like the recent Toyota Aygo/Citroen C1/Peugeot 107 in Europe - which is essentially the same car sold under 3 different brands, all built in the same place in the Czech Republic.

Personally, I don't know what the hell Mitsubishi Motors are up to with their international sales. It took them 4 years to release the new model Lancer in Europe, and by 2004 it was a pretty lame car compared to the more modern comptetition. Also, they've failed to replace the 1996 model Galant in most countries outside the US (even Japan), which is *kinda* getting on, now - it seems a lot of countries have dropped the model totally, so now Mitsubishi have no medium size car at all to sell in many places. Then again sales were absolutely abysmal anyway, so it's probably no great loss. There's even rumours that they're going to drop out totally from the US market. Do they even know how to sell cars!?

    Maybe a little ^_^

    Back on topic...

This is about a block away from my work. Can't help but chuckle and dream salooney-type dialogue whenever I pass by it.
