The thing is the "game play" in those FMV games is a complete joke. Even if you remaster the video so it's better than a gif, all the interaction is maybe pressing a button sometimes. Is more than the intro going to be in actual video? Someone should reshoot that and release it as a cheesy Z-movie.
Not all of them, quite a few play more like the classic point-and-click adventure games (D, Myst, the Phantasmagoria series, and The X-Files spring instantly to mind).
Are David Cage's shitty games really that different from FMV games? Barely any interaction as well as terrible acting and story...
I still don't know why people think ET for the 2600 is the worst game ever made. There are several other games worse than that (the Nausicaa game comes to mind), while this game is just a below average adventure in a console made to support not much beyond Pong and Tank. Hell someone even took his time to fix bugs and improve mechanics: http://www.neocomputer.org/projects/et/
ET was one of the largest profile busts up to that point, maybe ever. Atari put so much money into securing the rights (and doing it very late) that there was little left for making the actual game. There was so much hype that it would have been hard to live up to it, and the confusing game released was nowhere near as good as the film.
ET was not that bad. It have average quality for VCS standars. Its just complex and requiere to learn some tips from the manual (from the what?). Those kind of games that sold nothing on VCS market. Like Solaris, the best -by far- game ever done for Atari VCS, it got a shit back in the days. This is the era of shitty Square-Enix / SNK Playmore remakes, just take a look in Google Play, amazingly stupid reeditions like Final Fantasy VI.
