Does anybody have info about this system, all that I know it is that it was released at the same time as the Gameboy and that's all I Know
You can bet it, there're tons of portable media players (with PSP or GBA shapes in most of the cases) that have a built-in NES emulator, so you can just throw the roms in some folder (they usually come with tons of games) and play them from there. They're way more useful, portable and the quality is a lot better in most of the cases that the Game Axe. Here you can get some info about Game Axe anyway: http://ultimateconsoledatabase.com/portables/game_axe.htm
Yes but that is piracy, unless your honest to god own all the cartridge you are emulating. The Game Axe is big and bulky and eats batteries to make the Sega Nomad proud. The two other famous clones are the Game Theory Admiral, which is nice but has an adaptor which means the cartridge acts as a sun visor... and the Gametech Pocketfami (http://www.gametech.co.jp/products/catalog/2223/2223_1.html) which is better and is Japanese. Both should be around $100 or less if you look hard enough.
WOW actually something i own... if my memory serves me right.. it came with a 72 pin converter to play us NES games... the screen was of deccent quality.. but heaven forbid you happen to slightly move the cart (NES) BAM, blinking screen, etc.
I haven't turned mine on in years, but if I remember correctly, the screen *wasn't* pixel perfect. It was zoomed in or out. I can't remember. Not to mention, 6 AA batteries for like maybe 2 hours of battery life. Ridiculous. Not to mention, the obsurdity of the above photo. Game Axe. It's portable!
It's actually a portable Famicom, so that's an adapter for converting a NES style cartridge to a Famicom connector.
Yeah, with the included adpater more often than not you would get screwed up sometime throughout your game. I keep mine mainly to test pirate famicom carts that I sometimes find at swamp meets or little game stores. Gameaxe was originally made in 1989, then another run was produced around 1999 or 2000 for some reason. The screen is pretty blurry, although you can still see enough to tell what's going on. Sound is pretty good but not exact. Cool thing is you can attach an external device through av cable (dvd player for instance.) There is also a TV tuner for it advertised on the box but good luck finding one. The unit is solid, and somewhat well made, but there are smaller, more effecient handheld famicoms out there that don't eat batteries so fast and look and play better.
Damn, I wish I knew that back then (likely 2000). I could have saved myself the trouble. First one I got was faulty too, had to ship it back.
Now that is the one I'd love to see. It looks like something thrown together out of used parts. So utter crap and ugly yet so desirable! The screen is tinny as well, isn't it? Yakumo
http://www.atarihq.com/tsr/pirate/topguy.html some information on the top guy. there was a pack of about 3 of them, still sealed, on ebay a few months back. I saw it on Gamesniped.
thanks for the link XxHennersXx. Justa shame that his pictures are pretty poor. Still, he says that the unit hada pretty good screen! That was a surprise to hear. I'd just love to get my hands on one of these. yakumo
Actually it's rather large on the Gameaxe (considering,) about 4 inches across or so. Compare the size of the controls on that pic up there with the screen to get a good estimate. It does have a bit of white blur, quality wise it's a bit crappier than a Game Gear screen, but adequate for most games that don't require reading text. Another thing is it's backlit by LEDS that you can turn off seperately for some reason (although I don't know why, without them you can't see the screen at all, even in good light.)
