Alright so by now it's safe to say we pretty much all have some decent experience with being drunkne.. But I wonder, does anyone here have any experience with being the person behind the bar that is responsible for making so many people into drunks?

A friend of mine is looking into becoming a licensed bartender or whatever. He wants me to do it with him for fun. I'm a bit short on cash so I don't know if I will do it, but does anyone have any experience with bartending? Can you really make any money at it as an average person at an average bar?

Oh yeah and I'm drinking while writing this. 6 woodchuck hard ciders so far!

The tips mostly define a good income for a bartender, so be a nice person, make good service, and the people will tip you well!

Also, learn some flair bottling ;-)

Depends where you work really. I've worked in a few places bar tending, found that country pubs serving food tend to attract high tips - I've had 200 quid in a single tip before. Most bar jobs are minimum wage mind you. My girlfriend works in a club and usually only gets 5-10 pounds tip a night, though it is a shit club.

Yeah that's what I had expected. It really seems to depend on just where you work. You go online and see all of these people claiming that you can make crazy money as a bartender.
I'm sure it's possible if you're great at your job and you're in the perfect environment for big tippers. I'd just assume that as the average guy in an average bar you're going to make shit money most of the time.

I may take the classes with my friend if I can scrounge up the money. It would be fun at the least and yet another thing I could add to the laundry list of skills that I have acquired over the years.

I talked to a cocktail waitress and she said don't even bother with those bar tending academies. She said just get a book and learn how to make the drinks yourself. It's probably different for her, but she says that as a cocktail waitress, she makes a lot more than the bar tenders and she never took a class in her life.

I'm going to assume that her tits are far nicer than mine.. And thus her tips would be far nicer by extension.

Yeah I don't think I would do it for the sake of a career or anything. It may be fun to take a class with a friend though and learn some showmanship and what not. As far as doing this for a living I don't think it would be for me even if there was a ton of money in it.

haha, yeah they were. AND she had an awesome Tri-Force tattoo. Needless to say, me and my buddies tipped her very well. lol.

last night, we watched The Big Lebowski and tried to take a drink of beer every time an F-bomb was dropped. We couldn't do it. Partly because some scenes we'd have to chug for 2-3 minutes straight and partly because we ran out of beer 30 mins into the movie.

Take a class if you want to do it for fun, but don't expect much out of one - its not hard mixing cocktails and throwing bottles around with a little practice. You can get practice bottles made out of heavy plastic for the job. I'd imagine there are plenty of youtube tutorials covering the subject.

It might be different in the US but in the UK you generally want to be at the point of sale or cleaning up a table afterwards as thats when people tip. And yes, it usually helps a lot if you have a big pair of knockers!

Oh poor drunkne thread let me rescue you from the dreaded second page.

I don't know what the hell is going on, but I'm trashed on straight vodka and also a bottle of pinot.. I just looked over my shoulder to the right and there is some sort of latin half naked women dancing program on tv while I am listening to Benni benassi pumping through my headphones and browsing the site.. I gotta say that this is a disillusioning experience..

I'm still not sure what is all happening here but I'm off to play some more every extend with my right hand while playing abduction on evil infinite with my right hand.. I think my head will exp;ode!

    *edit
HAHAHA I have 2 right hands!!

    what a night.

it was all good until a buddy tried to fight his couzin and another dude totaled his Escalade.

for the love of everything, do not drink and drive and ALWAYS wear your seat belts.
