Today is the first day of my life when I really dont want to be japanese, be in japan or having to go there... The land of the rising fun (not a typo) is now the equivalent of buying games in siberia, thanks to the launch of the PS3. Bad news, apparently the disparity of units between the US and japan will be even worst: 400000 consoles (of an initial 100000 units) for the land of the almost-free, and just 80000 for the guys who actually made the thing. And thats not all: in japan users will have to download a firmware update (read: patch for last time bugs) just out of the box so they can use the console in the first place. Sony's Japanese site released a press release stated that there will be a software update on November 11th to allow "customers to be able to utilize the Playstation Network functions." For the guys that are there right now, heres the list of the few stores that will get the units: Bic Camera Shibuya East Exit Store •Store-Based Sales: Yes •Pre-Orders: No •Method of Distribution: Undecided •Number of Consoles: Undecided Yodobashi Camera Shinjuku East Exit Store •Store-Based Sales: Yes •Pre-Orders: No •Method of Distribution: First Come, First Served •Number of Consoles: Undecided Shibuya TSUTAYA •Store-Based Sales: Yes •Pre-Orders: No •Method of Distribution: Lottery •Number of Consoles: 10 Sakuraya Shibuya Store •Store-Based Sales: Yes •Pre-Orders: No •Method of Distribution: Lottery (Only those with the store's Point Card) •Number of Consoles: Undecided Sofmap Akihabara Store •Store-Based Sales: Yes •Pre-Orders: No •Method of Distribution: Lottery (Number of tickets is 300) •Number of Consoles: Undecided Yamada Techland Nerima Store •Store-Based Sales: Yes •Pre-Orders: No •Method of Distribution: First Come, First Served •Number of Consoles: Undecided Toys "R" Us Ikebukuro Sunshine City Shop •Store-Based Sales: Yes •Pre-Orders: No •Distribution: First Come, First Served (Dependent On Number of Consoles) •Number of Consoles: Undecided Laox (ASOBITCITY) •Store-based Sales: Yes •Pre-Orders: No •Method of Distribution: First Come, First Served •Number of Consoles: Undecided Kojima New Yoga Branch •Store-Based Sales: No •Pre-Orders: Yes (Lottery to Enter) •Method of Distribution: Lottery •Number of Consoles: Undecided GEO Koishikawa Store •Store-Based Sales: Yes •Pre-Orders: Yes •Method of Distribution: Pre-Orders Only •Number of Consoles: 10 Bad-karma, sony...
All I can say is that it is about time that the Japanese got screwed on something related to video games. It still doesn't make up for all the games and extras that the rest of the world has missed out on.
I can't understand why people would want a Ps3 when there isn't even ONE decent game out there worth the pricetag of the console? I d rather spend 600 dollars worth of arcade coins!
would say the xbox360 wasnt much different only now with gears of war a real musthave titel has arrived so give the ps3 6months to a year and then we check back
Well, I'd say it's worth it for the fact that MGS4 is coming out later. Probably isn't worth getting it now, though (unless you're going to sell it).
One thing that really really bugs me about the centralization of business (ie: Tokyo) in Japan is that if you want to buy anything out of the ordinary, you have to make the trip to Tokyo. The PS3 getting a limited release in only those stores is equivalent to a system being launched in only Chicago and Los Angeles. Pretty damn annoying for anyone living elsewhere, eh?
Honestly 360 issue with japan is they really hardly release any games over there that appeal to them. Ps3 will sell over there cause of the brand. Looks like the wii will make a killing off the ps3 shortage in japan.
shortage shouldn't be an issue for right thinking members of society. There's no amazing super-game comming out that one must own-or die (a la gears of war, zelda, or metal gear solid respectively) until well into 2007. The 360 wasnt worth buying at launch either.
Why are all those shops in bloody Tokyo. I hate the way this country revolves around bloody Tokyo all the time. Even Tv does it ! Nation of stuck in the box zombies! yakumo
Exactly! You'd think that a lot of the kiddos buying PS3's JUST because it's new (who probably have a 360 as well) could throw that 600$ towards something like college, a car, or hell, games for the systems they already have until something worth 600$ comes for PS3.
No, but I know a lot of labor is done by Chinese people and sold to America. A LOT of crap comes from China / Korea. Even "American" cartoons are done by tons of Koreans sometimes. Well, maybe MOST of the time, I'm not so sure on that one.
During some of the commentaries on Family Guy and the Simpsons, they talked about how much of their cartoons are made in Korea and shipped back here. I think its been going on for a WHILE, because in a making of Rugrats episode, they talked about the same ol' thing. Making the Koreans animate the whole thing. Also, the "Anime" Avatar on Nickelodeon is anything but. It was American inspired by two guys, and all the animation is done in Korea. I like most of these shows, so I guess its cool. I'm not so sure about the Simpsons, because they make like 2 episodes a year and still claim to be "alive" much like the Dreamcast. Sorry, guys, but its true.:-(
The dreamcast IS still alive... in my heart. Seriously, supposedly there is the possbility of a new game coming out, port of the Naomi shooter Karous. Doesn't mean it is alive, but is still neat..
Like most of you, none the PS3 games I've seen make me want to dish out 500 or 600 bucks. Not even MGS4. I'm fine with the 360 and my standard definition analog tv thanks.
