I lived with an Iraqi student in my last year and he said he preferred Saddam over what was then going on. He might have been a dictator, but at least you could sleep with your door unlocked at night, as he said.
Again, i'm not saying Saddam was a good guy. Still, North Korea and Iran were a bigger issue than he was. Why not push the UN to do something instead of acting like the world police? The only reason US invaded Irag again was because the oil. And let's not forget that the first war in Iraq started because Saddam was tired of being ripped off by Kuwait (stealing Iraq oil), that was being helped by the US. Most people today, if you mention Kuwait will say : "Oh, that poor country that was invaded by Iraq, and that caused the Gulf War..." So, the US and NATO forces invaded Iraq in the "operation desert storm" and then declared themselves winner (without capturing Saddam)... Then years later, Bin Laden and 9/11... Donald Rumsfeld then declared : Iraq has weapons of mass destruction and helps Al Khaeda! And here we go again... "operation iraq freedom". I won't even comment on that... Just read "Generation Kill" (or watch the TV series). I'm planning on reading "One Bullet Away: The Making of a Marine Officer" as soon as possible. So, US destroyed Iraq two times for what? Is it any better than before? People are "free" now? No, only a civil war has being started. This week Iraq news "update": http://www.javno.com/en-world/security-developments-in-iraq-june-23_267043 http://www.javno.com/en-world/security-developments-in-iraq-june-22_266885 http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/meast/06/22/iraq.violence/index.html?iref=newssearch http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/meast/06/21/iraq.kirkuk.suicide.bombing/index.html?iref=newssearch http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/meast/06/20/iraq.kirkuk.suicide.bombing/index.html?iref=newssearch Is it any better? Just for the record, 3 German soldiers were killed today in Afghanistan http://www.javno.com/en-world/three-german-soldiers-killed-in-afghaistan_267162 Yet another fucked up place that was invaded and bombed a lot and still no "freedom". PS: I don't think that the US are "evil", but their foreign policies in Bush and Dumb Bush (x2) administrations... well you got the picture.
Yeah, that was a well-named plan. :/ I hate to be the one saying "I told ya so" but in 1999, my motto was "Texans don't belong in the White House". As a Texan, I believe I have every right in the world to say that without offending anyone. I'll let what is now unforgotten history make the rest of the argument.
Or the whole bible belt for that matter. I'm quite proud of the people in Iran for what they're doing plus they're doing us a favor. We don't have to Bomb Iran into oblivion, it's people will do that for us.
Have you seen the documentary "Hacking Democracy" ? well that is one scary documentary. But about Iran ? well I hope Iran is becoming better some day in the future, in comparison to the terrorist fucker of Ahmadinejad´s regime. Cause he was one of the main guys of the US embassy incident back in the day in Iran years ago.
As expected, the recount of 10% of the votes confirmed Ahmadinejad as the re-elected president. He even got more votes than in the first count, that's what I call a kick in the ass of all protesters. I'd really love to see any progress in that issue, but the government seems to be perfectly strict and uncomprehensive. And on the other hand, Mussawi isn't the best choice either, he's just "less bad" than Ahmadinejad... never forget that he was one of the main leaders during the first years of the Islamic Republic in the 80s - when Iran was not much of a better place than it is now. At least the people haven't given up hope like in North Korea, as long as they have the power to undergo the government and to demonstrate, there is a chance they can liberate themselves.
