The best what i found.
Would be nice to see table which cover 50xxx and higher models. Also i'm interested in ps2 external hard drives compatibility.

 

Just got my test: DTL-H10000 that plays all retail Japanese ps2 games, and that's pretty much it. Doesn't play retail American ps1 games, they're recognized but just goes to a black screen when booted. Don't have Japanese ps1 games to try out. The only ps1 game that started fine is my net yaroze boot disk for some reason, and even it has more scratches than the ps1 games I tried. Haven't tried any backups.

Any way at all to get the master disk patcher in a mac version? or any mac program that can do it?

 

I'm very inclined to believe that only Japanese PS1 titles will boot on a PCMCIA Debugstation. Why ? Because the retail counterpart has "hard locks" on the BIOS (PS1 Driver) for keeping discs with non Japanese boot sectors from loading. And the Debugstation BIOS is usually based on the retail counterpart model. :shrug:

Another question: I dont remember where or when, but I recall reading that TEST ps2's have twice the RAM as retails. Can someone confirm this please? Is it true for all ps2 debugging stations? Is it true for ps1 debugging stations/net yaroze? Is it true for TEST ps3's?

 

No. All DEBUGGER unit's have same RAM amount as retail unit's. Both mine DTL-H1202 and DTL-H30001 based on retail consoles with replaced MechaCon (no region and disc authenticity) and BIOS ROM. Net Yaroze just doesn't have region check, while it still verify disc for it's authenticity (you can't load CD-R backup, even patched as master disc). More adviced guys can correct me if i did a mistake^_^

 

I think the TEST consoles do have disc region checks, because (to my knowledge) they do not play copies of retail games as-is. However, the disc is considered "fine" if it has ANY region info; unlike retail machines, which need the disc to have region info matching the respective target region.

The other main difference is that the region detection of TEST mechacons can be overridden by placing a "license file" into the disc's system area. If such a license file is present, the TEST mechacon treats the disc as an original for the corresponding region. Retail mechacons just ignore such license files.

 

Sorry if this isn't the correct place to post this - I have a Playstation Two test console, specifically the DTL - H30000 E. According to this thread, this console was intended for Korea only but the 'E' at the end of the model no. indicates that this model was for use in Europe? Externally it has 'TEST' in blue letters above the 'PlayStation 2' title.

I tested it a while ago and it can play PS1 PAL (do not own other regions) and PS2 PAL +NTSC (do not own other regions) I also recall it playing both UK DVDs and North American.

Output is AC 220-240V and next to the serial number it says: NTSC J

Any information about this console would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

hardware wise whats the diffrence between test and retail other than master burned disc playing an universal ps1 non region spefic game play mine has a silver hH painted on next to the model number?

Hardware differences:

Mechanics Controller (MECHACON) -> controls the DVD drive and security.
System Controller (SYSCON) -> controls bring up of the system, fan, HDD, leds, temperature monitoring and power supply/voltage regulators.
BOOTROM -> Contains a customized version of the PS2 rom which matches the special firmware that is written on the Mechanics Controller.

If you take these three parts from some Debugstation and fit on a retail unit of the same board type, it will effectively become an Debugstation.

 

hmm i thought theres only firmare diffrences and diffrences in the amount of memory from reading the playstation 2 linux boards i picked up 2 ps2 linux kits at e3 2010 as a gift from scei after som friends thee heard about my near fatal right side ischemic stroke on 1-13-2010 leaving me left side paralyised.. only can type with my right hand atm it uses a similar version to the too linux but is kinda pissy with su command and for me 9 reinstalls on my v9 retail units it also hates all mod chips een my dms4prose wich i had to install a power switch to to ge the kit to work...

Do PS2 Test Kits (specifically the H50001) use the standard PS2 video cables or is it a different video cable?

 

Visually, they are similar to retail consoles. They share the same input and output interfaces with retail sets. So yes, they use the usual types of PlayStation AV cables.

Externally only things that are different are the LOGO on the cover and the sticker with the model information. It cannot play DVD Video discs, regardless of what you do.
Also some models have retail top "PS2" logo on the top cover. These will have an "s" (as in "trade Show version") on the model number.
