    Max, is it looking more promising???? Excellent! I am SO pleased that it is not damaged beyond repair! Back to it's former glory.

    Many thanks to UJ, Port et al for sorting the software out.

    As for HOW it happened. I have NO idea. Hand on heart, I definately placed it in the box in full working order. Everyone on the threads witnessed my marathon struggle to get that unit working again, plus their own efforts proved the unit was viable.

    How it became faulty is perhaps immaterial now, but it is one to remember for future reference. In transit, remove the HDD from the case for good practice.

    Fantastic! I am really happy for Max and very much happier for myself too as nobody likes to feel that they've been at the wrong end of a bad trade. Hopefully we are close to seeing it running some titles.

    Try "Oni" the last title I played if you have it, it certainly proves it runs!

    MASSIVE thanks to everyone - especially considering UJ should have been cheering France on!

    I fixed a few things and finally I successfully flashed it in WS mode.

    Unfortunately TOOL mode is still not functional.

    Should I repeat the flash process in TOOL mode?

    Sorry about my questions. At this point I'm very careful, because I don't want to make a stupid failure which could destroy the unit.

    Strange, when you were in WS mode, the dipswitch1 on the back was set to ON or OFF?
    You can flash with the version 270 as well, to test.
    you can try flashing in Tool mode, it won't break anything, if you follow the simple rule below:
    Be sure to use the correct syntax for Tool mode as written in the setup301.pdf:
    dsflash t10000-rel300.bin

    The flashing says "Complete" once finished?
    First thing to do after is dsreset according to setup301.pdf (read the doc if you haven't done already, atleast the writing to flash rom and restoring the flashrom sections)
    Does dsidb displays the correct rom version?
    If all this fails, try with the other version of the rom, in WS mode, and maybe following the procedure with dsistart instead of dsflash.

    I tried it with the older 't10000-rel270.bin' in TOOL mode - unfortunately I still have the color bars.

    It says 'complete' after flashing and I did a dsreset and then I started dsidb to check the flash rom version:

    Code:
     CPUID=15, ROMGEN=2003-0304, CACH_CONFIG=1edd8, 8MB, IOP mode, FlashROM boot
     <20030304-144633,ROMconf,t10000-rel270.bin:11840>
     SW=b7:^^^^____:b0, RESET parameter EE=00000000_00000000, IOP=00000000_00000000
    dsidb R>
    flashing worked fine, in my opinion.

    Probably I need an older firmware release?

    @ Parris: Do you remember the firmware version of the TOOL ?

    You did it in WS mode, right?
    I don't have the old runtime discs with me right now, I will check them tomorrow for older firmware files.
    Maybe you need to turn the unit off and on again?
    I'm running out of ideas and I need to sleep a lot...
    Have you tried with dsistart?

    I've tried...
    Code:
    dsistart /usr/local/sce/bin/romflash -mpu4shadow t10000-rel270.bin
    ...in ws mode.

    Unfortunately TOOL mode still not working.

    Probably important: When I start dsidb WS mode the rom version is not shown. But in TOOL mode dsidb shows the rom version. Strange.

    btw, I need some sleep, too. I will try again tommorrow. Anyway thanks to everyone for the support.

    Max, I am so sorry I can't be of much more use to you. I never checked the firmware revision of this particular unit. Once I realised you were interested in it, I kind of left it to one side. :banghead:

    I tried exactly the following ways to flash the rom, but TOOL mode is still not working :-( Probably I need an older release.

    dsidb doesn't show the rom version in WS mode with my unit either.
    What is the dsnet version installed?

    I don't know what's going on. I powered up the unit today and the WS mode isn't working anymore. The TOOL screen on the MultiAV out disapeared and I have that color bars again.:-(

    I used the TOOL 4 days ago. As far as I remember WS mode was fine.

    I tried to re-flash the unit but without success. WS mode isn't working anymore :-(

    God, this is just going from crap to utterly crap! I wished you didn't live in Germany as I seriously would be prepared to go through this unit with a fine tooth comb. Postage costs kind of prohibit this, plus I fear any further transit damage.

    To be certain of where this is going wrong, I would prefer to be able to swap parts between two unit to narrow it down. I am confused to why the settings are changing

    I simply don't understand what would cause this bizarre fault.

    Any damaged PS2 Tools been floating around to plunder parts from?

    Insurance is the responsibility of the purchaser, if none was taken, then
    there's nothing you can do really.

    Ship it back to parris insured with the same shipper and claim.
    Shady, but they broke it the first time anyway.

    Listen I have a better idea. I'd be prepared to turn the trade. I somewhat feel responsible for this. We both screwed up regarding insufficient insurance, but I never want it said that I don't trade well.

    I would be prepared to send your AG Capture back to you in return for you covering shipping that piece of sh*t back to me. Your call Max.

    If I get the PS2 Tool running again and you are happy with it, then we might try again lol

    UJ: You got sufficient spares to assist with repair? LOL

    Not a bad idea Kev, however if you are still wanting to go with my plan below then let me know asap!

    I start a new lecturing position next week and my time is going to become increasingly limited, so if I am going into "PS2 Tool Repoman" mode, then I'd like to set aside some time for it in my diary. ;-)

    another random guess on why it stopped working again..
    it's not just some internal battery that has crapped out making what ever memory using it to lose it's settings on power off?

    I replaced the battery, but try it just in case it was a bad battery (it was old spares, perhaps the battery had gone out of date).

    I have had a look at the firmware of the unit I am currently using. It's quite selective about which retail titles it accepts, however it plays about 1/3 of the titles I have.

    "CPUID=15, ROMGEN=2003-1031, CACH_CONFIG=1edd8, 8MB, IOP mode, ROM boot
    <20031031-193432,ROMconf,t10000-rel300.bin:11856>"

    Wished I had checked the firmware on your unit! :-(
