Let me share my knowlege (heh) .. Some people may know, im deep in the PS2 Scene Cogswap loader is burnt on a cd and booted via a swap device (swap magic, gameshark etc..) or loaded onto a memory card to be loaded with the psx exploit (using an original psone disk) Its just a device used to assist in the loading of backups/imports of your games.. See the best way to go, without modifications (installing a chip) is either a swap magic, or using the memory card exploit (which ironically you need to load on the MC with a burnt cd.. so get a friend maybe?) Im not gonna throw a website name around that has all kindsa info on it, just to be fair, but psx forum lacks in comparasion to what we have done! And Eventually, ill have a custom ps2 dashboard, no need for modchips, nada! Enjoy CJ
Err and.. The Gameshark /AR swaps = dont work on a V7+ PS2, as theres a doublecheck against the cd disk, v9's and 10 have an additional check, preventing Swap Magic 3.0 CD from booting, for that you need the newer 3.2 cd ! (its a pressed disk, so it will boot on practically ANY ps2!)
Surely the PS2 HDD loader software would be helpful. Then you only use the CD drive once when you boot up the console to load the game. Saves usage of the dodgy laser. But then you need the HDDloader software, a BBA and a HDD. Oh well....
And alot of games have incompatabilities :/ IMHO, its faster to burn a cd and play a backup, vs installing it and stuff!
Ah that would explain why i couldn't get 90% of the stuff i had to run on my ps2 , i just checked and it's a V9 model :smt022
Heh, yeah.. just look for version 3.2 , Just get it from a reputable dealer, the set should cost ya 25 shipped or so!
How will all this stand I wonder when the new PStwo comes out. I hope they arn't taking anything out of the features. I wonder if it will be impossible to use gameshark, play region free stuff, ect...
Well what im thinking , of course most of it will be disabled as older versions have shown us, also I beleive the ps2 will reload the ATAD.IRX (hdd drivers) off the BIOS upon any HDD access (to prevent non-sony Hard disks) 30 percent smaller, i wouldnt be supprised if the thing had no hdd bay, but i doubt it.
would I be mistaken if I were to say this Pstwo is going to have a built in net adapter? I shouldn't have a built in HDD that would be too good.
Well, the network adaptor is fairly small (the casing makes it a little bigger than what it really is.
