I think the new ads campaign from apple is intentionally offensive for the PC user. This "if your system sucks then you suck too" is getting too old. I mean c'mon, this crap is from the Genesis-Snes times, that was almost 15 years ago... Is ironic they portray the typical PC user as some stiffy, middle age office guy when most people I know use macs are just like that: old and grey. (NOTE: I'm not saying EVERY mac user is like that, but if we are going to generalize PC users here, what the hell? mac users too). Why? well first cuz they have the extra money for a mac, and second they aren't good with windows and solving OS problems, so they want an "easy" to use machine. To conclude, seriously, how you guys think apple and the maclovers would react if MS did run ads like these, specially targeted against the mac format and userbase? Shadowlayer
The im a mac guy looks like a proper prick... We are getting the intel ad right now. "everything your PC does but better" well apart from being more expensive, making it so you cant upgrade anything and selling me your OS everytime you feel like updating it now and then. Yeah fine it added widgets but i get them for free on windows too. . .
I'm primarily a Mac user, but I spend my days working in front of a PC to earn a living. Personally, I don't care for these ads nor do I particularly like this new direction that Apple is adopting with their company. Granted, the Mac has always been a platform for rebels and the creative types, but the success of the iMac & iPod has really changed the way Apple operates on all levels, becoming more of a trendy fashion label than a true working alternative for those who seek a Windows-free computing environment. I'm not anti-Microsoft (the Xbox is my next-gen console of my choice), so if MS did a set of ads like the ones Apple has I personally wouldn't care one way or the other.
There's a good penny arcade strip portraying a mac user as an elitist asshole. The fanatic mac users would definitely bitch about it. They bitched when a PC enthusiast gutted a mac G5 case and put PC components. The guy joked that he threw out the G5 hadware and that is when he started to get a flood of death threats from mac enthusiasts lol. But yehb I wouldn't be suprised of MS gets sued one way or the other. That seems like the current trend to do. Sue MS because you fail at running a business. Sue MS because they decide to put Windows Live Search as the default search engine in IE7 whereas Firefox/Mozilla lists Google, but not MSN search, in the list of embedded searchengines (talk about hypocracy). Google just wants to be like MS, Redhat (who just bought JBOSS) and other commercial linux distros want to be like MS. THe devil you know is better than the devil you don't know. I don't hate Apple, they make damn fine machines, and they like it that way, and that's why we don't see a lot of 3rd party support like we do for MS. And when a program is out for Mac users, the program is much more stable than the Windows version. I'd get a mac if my line of work would let me use one.
Be surprised if that wasn't the one you were referring to, madhatter. I would like an x86-based mac, not worth the money over a normal PC to me though.
AutoCAD, Sketchup, Architectural Desktop. I don't use them yet, b ut will soon once I start school. My school will also require a laptop halfway thru the degree program. Would have to check with them if Macs are ok and won't cause problems with compatability.
I have two mac-user exgirlfriends. One of them was even actually born the same day the mac was released (24/1/1984). I was forced to use macs to do video editing and multimedia and even 3D in college. I witnessed the roundabout rainbow of terror far too many times. I will be PC for life.
Another commercial makes it seem like mac's could never get a virus. I would assume that's simply because not as many people took the time to write mac specific viruses. http://www.cnn.com/2006/TECH/04/30/apple.security.ap/
I just saw the commercial on CNN. It's a stupid phallacy. "Yeah, I get all these cool widgets and all you get is a calculator" MY ASS. This campaing is aiming for the "bottom 10%" of the market.
Bollocks. I own a mac because: A) All the software i need, none of the shit I don't want B) Unix Based C) I was fed up of spending time fixing windows, when a mac I don't have to do any of the "housekeeping" D) I was willing to pay a premium for hardware which suited my needs better than most PC hardware. I'm perfectly capable of fixing windows, I choose not to because I have better things to do with my time! Price has been gone over time and time again - comes down to what value in a system. Take a look at the "Better" advert - apple do note what windows is good for, but obviously are going to sell apple products - Thats their job! The iLife is also a good ad - it basically says if you enjoy ipod+itunes, you'll enjoy the iLife apps. Clever ad. you can't criticise apple for targetting the windows userbase - more users, surprisingly enough, mean more money! No ad is untrue - you can't get a "windows virus" on a mac - by definition! Plus the mac security model IS stronger, and they have a faster patch turnaround with fewer unpatched vulnerabilities. I think that is something to shout about Don't criticise apple for making the "mac man" young and "cool" - you didn't see any old fat balding people in dell ads, Ms Ads...indeed any ads really. the whole idea of ads is to make your product look good, and others bad. Seelaything saturn ads, nappy ads, toilet paper ads - many, many companies do it, not just apple, and I really don't see a problem with it.
Ahh, a good old fashion religious war. I am not going to debate the merits of either system. I only want to say that Apple does a fine job alienating the market that they keep bitching that Microsoft has monopolized. It seems that many people who work on Windows but are considering switching to Mac are doing so for a couple of reasons (most commonly for looks and for false security). Unfortunately, those who will simply select the "best" computer for their purposes, be it a PC or a Mac, will simply be turned off by these commercials. Anyone who has used a PC knows that they get more than just a calculator and a calendar. Now, I am just waiting for the lawsuit against Apple for lap burns from the new MacBooks. I'm sorry, but a laptop should not get upwords of 100 degrees on the bottom (according to the "fever" strip that I placed on it). :fresh:
Anyone ever heard of Mac evangelism? Apple created the murderous fanaticism that we see in its users. These new ads are just a continuation of it. Evangelism is good, as long as it remains fun, collegial, and non-violent. Anyone wanna guess my favourite computer/OS?
I wonder how many people actually "grow up" on a mac instead of swapping to it as a smug protest to the evil corporate M$â„¢. While they point out their talking points better than the republican party and say a majority of pc users are dumbass drones that know nothing, I can say that many mac users are poser idiots that only buy one because of the marketing and because it's supposedly against the grain. Wow, what a reason to gloat. The mere fact that they brag about the virus issue shows what the market share is. These ads are annoying and make me never want to buy one.
honestly i do love macs for video editing (which is why i want to get a new intel core power book) but editign aside, i prefer pc for normal and gaming use. As for these ads, i dont care really, it just makes them look a little silly in some ways.
Every company is out there to make dollars. I used to like Macs for their different hardware insides (in the same way I like consoles), but the new Macs are just "clean" PCs with a philosophy, not substansive differences.
Look all im gonna say is i tried and tried to send you a picture last night and all your mac did was crash :110:
