Hello again, So I live in the northeast part of USA and there is a game and music place called the Exchange. I went today and took my ps2 slim and Pokemon Platinum. Walked in and said I would like to sell this stuff. A guy was helping me then a woman had to come and help for no reason. She picked it up and looked at it like it was fake. She's like we have a lot of these then she said there is no warranty sticker, we can't take it. wow. This place has massive games and consoles and there are like 5 of them in the same area. The exchange is overpriced on like everything, I wish that was a better store, that would be awesome.
Odd, I've found the Exchange (the locations in Chicago) to be pretty fair, especially on PS2 era games. Now Play n Trade, that's an overpriced store.
"I was offered a fair amount for my games and consoles at physical game shop." - No one ever It can't be. You take a loss for your stuff and they sell it for above value. The difference is used to pay useless staff.
Exactly, you'll never ever get a good turnover by pawning things in, never. Selling privately takes a long time, but you'll get more for your items.
You went in trying to sell the highest selling console in history. They are a dime a dozen. They're so cheap that you can regularly find them at thrift stores, meaning that people are literally giving them away. They likely have tons of them and people just aren't buying them, so why are you surpised that they won't take yours?
Lol I just wanted to sell it because i already have one and im looking for a SNES but they have an overpriced SNES anyways. I called like 10 million places today and noone has one.
They are exceedingly common. There are over 100 million of them sold (admittedly, many are probably in dumps), the PS2 is probably at the nadir of its value right now, and the SNES is on the ascension (people are moving from the NES to it)
Yeah, PS2's are very common place. If you expect to get more than $5 for it, you're unfortunately incorrect. You may be better off softmodding it, popping a harddrive in it and selling it on here. That has more value.
Just sell it privately on something like Craigslist because stores give you squat for your stuff, as was already mentioned above.
well the uk equivalent of craigslist (gumtree) isnt too bad, but i wouldn't sell anything super valuable on there, but is ok for shifting stuff you just have to give it a fair price i.e cheaper than ebay, but seeing as its (generally) local you dont have to worry about postage costs etc....plus unlike ebay you get to talk to the people before you agree to sell them it so if you get a bad vibe from someone you can just ignore them plus you dont have the ebay fee's and paypal fee's to worry about either.....personally i dont see why more people dont use it......just don't sell anything that would attract the wrong attention, but for games consoles and stuff it works out more in your pocket than if you put it on ebay or sell it to a shop.....but as people have said PS2's are pretty common i know i wouldnt pay more than a couple of pound for one....a lot of places won't take them in as they would more than likely just sit there for months, i think most places just have 1 or 2 and will only buy another one in once one of those 2 sell
Honestly I've never had a problem with Craigslist, the thing is: "Always deal locally" and "If it looks too good to be true, it is"
I was at a game store today, and a guy was trying to sell a CIB NES system. They offered him $13 for it. Luckily for him, he decided not to sell it. I would've offered to buy it, but I'm kinda broke at the moment. I got Crash Bandicoot 2 instead, so at least there's that (it was missing the manual, but it doesn't matter, since all I needed was the disc). I already have an NES, anyway.
I got to know a lot of the local resellers here in Quebec city. Some of them are quite decent, some are overpriced. The competition is strong and the market not so big. Here there are many small resellers rather than a few big ones. They sell their stuff ( Especially retro ) easily but have a hard time getting new stuff. This makes for an interesting theater. Some will give as much as 75% of their sale price on select titles just because they want to have them stock. I usually do not trade my stuff to resellers, I rather use ebay but a friend of mine trades his stuff a lot and I am often surprised at how much he gets in exchange. Part of it is definitely from having good long term relations with the store owners. I myself bought a fair lot of stuff from some of them and find they are pretty nice when it comes to giving me bulk deals and extra services. I am definitely not on the reseller hating bandwagon.
Trading in and selling are two different things, you'll always get more for a trade-in than a sale. If there's stuff there you want you have a good chance of a good turn around.
