Trials HD > LBP Little Big Planet isn't a platformer for the usual Mario addict like myself, and I own LBP. If that's a reason to buy a PS3, then Trials HD, a humble arcade game, is a reason for everyone to get a 360. I downloaded the demo and I wish I had the money to buy the game
I don't like the fact that whenever I play PS3 after my brother.. And he leaves it on the same game I'll play, I have to quit the game THEN log out.. Then restart the game.. Compared to Xbox 360.. Where you can change profiles while in the game without having to do all that nonsense. The 360 has WAY more people playing the same online games for it online than the PS3. Example: CoD:WaW for 360 has thousands more users online than a PS3. I like the exclusive games.. Ratchet and Clank is AMAZING! Resistance Fall of Man is pretty good too. I do not like the fact that the PS3 does not come with a mic. I like the trophy idea.. But it needs work. Playstation Home has A LOT of potential but won't take advantage of it. It browses the Web.. Though it will not play videos on FX's website. And hulu.com is not compatible with the PS3's web browser. I like their codec support for audio and video. Folding At Home is a neat idea.. Taking advantage of the cell processor. The Six Axis controller is very light. I think the easiest to use out of the three current gen consoles. PSN is free. I think they have Netflix. Media server support. Having built in wireless is helpful. LOTS of settings to mess around with.(that's a good thing I think)
On the flip side, XBL has a lot more prepubescent, fucktard campers/spawn fuckers/TKers/myg0t-wannabes/12-year-old sounding shitstains which prevail in the FPS multiplayer games. Neither does the 360. You have to buy one separately unless they bundle one. With the PS3 you can use pretty much any bluetooth headset. Yeah they do, but you need to get a disc from them. This is a temporary solution (and is annoying since you have to put the disc in each time you want to use Netflix); they seem to be waiting out the exclusivity deal (supposedly ends around the end of 2010) with MS before making it an app on the XMB. You just have to make sure it's a 9.5mm tall hard drive and not the 12.5mm tall hard drive. If you have an early phat console where the hard drive sits long way front to back instead of left to right, you can get the HDXT which lets you hook up a hard drive externally via eSATA so you could use a desktop hard drive (I think it supports 2TB, I've seen vids on YouTube with guys using 1TB drives). My 40GB model is one that the hard drive sits left to right so I can't use the HDXT, but have my system upgraded to a 320GB laptop drive.
I want a launch JP PS3, just so I can play my PS2 cave shmups through it. I'll probably just get a 40GB PAL model when GT5 is released though. Currently no games to my taste that I would consider a justifiable reason to buy.
oh btw, I m currently controlling my PS3 via my N900 mobile phone. Its touch screen can act as either a controller (can also make us of accelerometers found in the phone, like sixaxis), a keyboard, a mouse, a remote control etc, all through Bluetooth. The fact that the Ps3 sits on top of established protocols and can offer such dynamic possibilities is a dream come true for me
Barc0de, that is pretty awesome. Does the N900 'act' like a normal bluetooth keyboard and mouse, or is it running in a special PS3 mode? I am curious as to how the accelerometers are used since they are not typically in a bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
If it's, for example, a sniper role or in the case of defending in attack & defend, then I don't have a problem with it. But if it's something like camping at weapons or in the case of spawn fucking (non-sniping), then it's really irritating. It's funny watching the flash animation videos of what it consists of, but not when fucktards decide to do it in the lobby you're in. Basically, it's when someone fucks around in your game to a degree where they make it unplayable (like TKing for teh lulz) and trying to piss you off. I've had it happen several times. One example was as I was playing GTA4 Bomb Da Base II with a friend and another guy jumped into the lobby. Started the game and as soon as we were in the helicopter, he cooked off a grenade and destroyed the helicopter killing himself and my friend (somehow I survived by sitting in the back). He then proceeded to try and kill us both for a few minutes (I think I had friendly fire off, but he ran us over with a car a few times). Couldn't get to the Vote to kick soon enough. I don't have a prob with them either, if they're not disrespectful shits. There's a difference between "fighting words"/talking smack during a tense match and displaying their recently learned colorful language (and strung together poorly, so it's easy to identify) or trying to be "cool" and constantly calling you a faggot. Depending on how many there are in a lobby, it's sometimes easier, sadly, to drop out of the game than to try and mute all of them. That was bundled then, since neither of the arcade models I have bought came with one (2006 and 2008; no surprise though).
The n900 can emulate the PS3 controller, so it shows up as a standard deal, pretty neat piece of software. Saturn USB controllers work on the PS3 as well, thats quite nice
About as bad as NXE dash is. Granted, it can be a PITA to find something in the Playstation Store, but at least Sony tried (subdividing within categories can work for or against you, it kind of works against you in the Store), unlike MS who had to fuck everything up with the NXE update.
ps3 doesn't have party chat, but it also doesn't have the ridiculous amount of advertising on the dashboard. way less people on psn, more non English speaking people, way less people have mics. lacks alot good exclusives. I cant realy hang-out with my friends on psn, as where xbox i can, it just has more of a social enviornment. PS3's game cases are a way better design. While xbox seems to give you half assed cases with missing plastic behind the disc. (frustrates the shit outa me) I will give ps3 this, there's is less 10 year old haywo and kaw of dootie kiddies, and more mature poeple. Ps3 has more betas. Overall IMO ps3 has the better hardware, just lacks the exclusives and community perspective that the xbox360 has.
It comes up as a Bluetooth HID. You can change modes on the fly, easily alternating say between keyb and mouse. The accelerometers can be used to navigate the XMB and what have you, but it's not "seen" as a PS3 controller when in games. I was trying to get Flower to work with it but it doesn't appear as a valid "ps3 wireless controller". Considering how premature most N900 software still is due to its freshness, I am confident that there are more interesting things to come. For example, there's a PS3 Control option that to my knowledge doesn't do anything yet. I think it will either a) let you hook up a DS3 controller via Bluetooth or b) allow you to use the n900 as a sixaxis/ds3.
I like the NXE. But there is A LOT of advertising. NXE could also be more organised. Another plus is having Bluetooth. Though the Blu-Ray Bluetooth remote can get a bit bothersome. There is no "off switch" for the remote. So my dog will always press a button when he jumps up on the couch onto the remote.
I have both, a X360 and PS3 (and lots of other Consoles, not relevant now), and I must say, I prefer the X360 experience. A lot less hassle for me. The XBLA has an easier to understand licence policy for DLC and titles (less restrictive, while the PSN applies a max console / activation per title. Also for me, it's a hassle to switch users, and it rebooted my game after I lost my internet connection. Also a big negative for me are the many warning screens before a game starts (online feature, auto save, blahblah blah). I personally don't like the controller. Loading times for games without install is way longer. All XBLA titles have a demo-version (It's mandatory) while PSN only has a select few. The X360 automatically configures it's output options for Video and Audio, while the PS3 has to be set manually each time connections change (i.e, connecting with Component instead of HDMI, 360 works instantly, the PS3 has to be reset or similar). And one final thing, I wanted to play GT5 prologe, download version, and it refused to start until I connected to the internet (it was currently out). Also for me, the X360 is way more easy to use and set up. But I must say for the PS3, plays almost all *.avi files. uses standard protocols for almost everything, is more quiet during operation and has user exchangeable standard harddisks. Also do not forget the games.
Just a comment on downloadable, the PS3 is anything but restrictive. It allows for the sharing of a game across 5 different consoles at the same time, with an exception to a handful of games (warhawk, GT, and maybe another few?). Dont want it on the console? Then deactivate it, simple as can be. And you dont even need to be signed into the original account for those with multiple PS3s, so you can play online all you want. Less of a hassle then having to be connected to a Live or transfer your license on a 360.
It's not that much of a hardship to press and hold the on button until it beeps twice... Both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 will request you set the resolutions if you use a HD cable. Although the Xbox 360 does support VGA (although the official cable takes the piss with the price) properly with lots of resolutions where as the PS3 doesn't have an official cable and only supports 480p... Although only the newer Xbox 360s support HDMI (as if the older non HDMI Xbox 360s are still alive :110: ) where as all PS3 machines do support HDMI as standard. On HDMI, the PS3 can support DVI capable monitors quite easily with a standard HDMI to DVI convertor or lead and audio can be got from the optical out or through the AV connector. Technically so could the Xbox 360, however if you want audio from the Xbox 360 you would have to hack up your AV lead or you could buy the insanely expensive lead to get standard audio or optical out. Odd never had that problem with playing GT5P offline with the standard disc version...
my non-hdmi is still alive mate, don't wish down on it Indeed, GT5 prologue will not execute if you aren't a) online and b) signed-in to PSN c) with the correct account. It's pretty damn restrictive, so much that I might end up snatching the Disc version as well just in case i don't have internet one day
I laugh when early on all the 360 owners took the piss out of the PS3 install feature, and now they laud it up because they can spend 25 minutes installing a game just to shave 3 seconds off the load screen. Also, my non-HDMI 360 is still alive, has been repaired once though.
