Is this really "official" that the PSP is dead? Just because some Square-Enix game isn't coming out for it?

Well, anyways, speaking of Square-Enix, I've heard they and some other company were in talks into going into the hardware industry, too.

I think thats just plain exagerated, after all the PSP is getting the FFVII prequel which is what really sells in japan.

And I heard square had a big participation in the wonderswan, which didnt go anywhere...

Dragon Quest is the biggest selling serie in japan and by far. The game is also from the serie, not a remake of a sequel spin-off.

Its not the fact that the game doesnt come to the psp, its the fact that i comes to the DS. It was thought the ps3 would receive The next Dragon Quest, and this game is THE killer for japan, more than the next final fantasy.

Yup dragon quest is a liscense to print money. In japan its very very big, each time one is released theres usually pandemonium.

While not the death blow to the psp its certainly a big slap in the face, seeing as DQ fans will flock to the ds to get their fix.

As if the ds wasnt doing well enough already, nintendo must be rubbing their hands with glee.

I thought they just announced Final Fantasy Tactics for PSP, so I don't think Square-Enix is abandoning the PSP just yet, and I'm sure in time that DQ will make its way to PS3.

Any person who states that is a dumb fanboy. DSL is selling extreamly well but a) PSP is still 2nd best selling system in japan this year, b) Squaresoft is giving PSP FF7:CC & FF Tactics remake. If PSP was felt to be dead S-E would not add new suport.

Second GBA is still the best selling system out there. DS will probably pass it but not lap it. So pretty much it's the same ****, different day. Only thing that would be amazing is psp outselling DS which was wishful thinking by psp fans (including my self in the early years).

PS3 still gets FF13 and other S-E suport. DSL atm gets the bulk of the suport because ----- Square-Enix is about money. They will always heavly suport the market leader over others. *OMG, a revilation* S-E could give a damn about what system its on, just as long as it's profitable.

Final Fantasy Tactics = hmm, nice enough game I guess
Dragon Quest = GIVE ME ONE NOW BEFORE I EXPLODE !!

THis is for the Japanese however. I'm not too sure aboutt he rest of the world.

I thought the PSP was dead a long time ago?

You know, when the movie industry gave the UMD format the finger. And then when nobody gave a shit about it anymore for anything other than emulators.

    As for the spin-offs:
Do those ever sell that well? Its my understanding Dirge of Cerebus was a flop. I don't know how Rocket Slime did, but I imagine it didn't match a regular Dragon Quest games' numbers.

As for Squeenix not giving support to a dead console... doesn't Sony own stock in them? I mean, wouldn't it look pretty bad if they WEREN'T continuing to shovel junk out on the thing? I would imagine thats why the PSP is getting a prequel (that everyone will say is nowhere near as good as the original) and a remake.

Again, PSP is 2nd best selling system in japan for this year. How is it close to being dead?

Movie industry did not realy give Sony the finger. More movie industry gave people the finger (only good studio was buena vista/disney). So nobody purchased thus they blame people for not buying crap with less content then DVDs (does not have to be the case as many UMD have had equal content to their DVD counter part, second UMD could have gone the 2nd disc route like many DVDs do now).

FF7CC is a prequel but nobody has ever played it. The game is just now for the first time on display at the jump festival.

PSP in NA also had a far better game list for christmas season then DS did. MGS:pO is getting rave reviews all around as is killzone liberations, Medal of Honor, Lumines 2, blah blah blah. Final Fantasy 3 on DS how ever has been getting Ok reviews. Only DS game to get good reviews has been the new castlevania.

Link? I cannot fathom it outselling the PS2 or GBA. And it outselling the Xbox, Xbox360, PS3, Wii, and Gamecube would be a no brainer.

No... its just that its another shit format Sony wanted to shove down people's throats and nobody wanted to waste the money.

I'm making a prediction, not giving impressions or pulling a fact.

Wow... its easy to see where your loyalties lie here. The DS had FFIII, Kirby Squeak Squad, Yoshi's Island, Bomberman Land, Portrait of Ruin, etc. And a quick glance at gamerankings.com shows that reviews seem to be in favor of the DS this season.

No, People just did not want to buy inferior DVD for more just so they could watch them on the go. The only studio that reported excelent sales was Warner Bros after droping UMD movie prices down to $10 for a few weeks.

No more easy to see a majority on this board are nintendo fanboys. I own a DS. I love Kirby Squeak Squad but YI, BL & FF3 were not that great.

    According to GameRankings.com
    DS
    Elite Beat Agents - 88%
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin - 86%
    Yoshi's Island DS - 82%
    Bomberman Land Touch! - 82%
    Final Fantasy III - 77%
    Kirby Squeak Squad - 74%

    PSP
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops - 89%
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories - 85%
    Lumines II - 82%
    SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 2 - 82%
    Marvel: Ultimate Alliance - 82%
    Sega Genesis Collection - 81%
    Gitaroo Man Lives! - 81%
    Killzone: Liberation - 79%
Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception - 76%
Medal of Honor Heroes - 71%

    There you go. :|

buying most movies is not worth it. There's very few movies worth re-watching.

85% of them aren't from those big hollywood studios. Those same studios are the ones who support the umd format.

Finally a decent game for the system. Maybe I will dust mine off if and when it sees a release over here.

i think thats great for the DS to get such a series,i think its interesting that such a major series will only be on a handheld.while it was mentioned somewhere up there that the PSP is the second highest selling system it had to be mentioned that there is a giant leap between them on actual sold systems:DS at 6,441,813 and PSP at 1,592,648.i don't know how 100% that is but i must say thats a large differance.

Because it's on a handheld or because it's an Action RPG?

S-E has *never* screwed up the Dragon Quest franchise in a mainline game....ever. Not once, not even partially.

On the other hand, they've screwed up Final Fantasy plenty of times, but look how good the majority of those still manage to turn out.

S-E won't release a DQ game that isn't absolute solid fucking gold. It's just inconcievable.

both the ds and psp have their strengths and weaknesses, I own both, and their both great. Sure the psp may not have that killer "app" like the ds has with say, mario bros, or mario kart, but, the psp has many great games to fill the void of a main "killer" app. this year for the psp is especially strong with locoroco, gangs of london, killzone, MGS, GTA and several others, while the ds has a strong lineup as well. In the end, each system caters to a different group of gamers, and each system has its weaknesses too.
