In some ways you can see SquareEnix diverging the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest franchises - FF has become adult (well... teen-angst) movie-like in nature while DQ is sticking to the tried and tested Japanese RPG formula. That makes it more suitable for handhelds now that their technology has advanced enough. I reckon we will see a DQ8 conversion on the PSP in the future, too. BTW, I love that they kept the European voice actors in the USA edition of DQ8! A big surprise for me there
No, this is an exaggeration. An online Dragon Quest IX will be much more important in Japan than a Final Fantasy VII off-shoot will ever be. I'm not even sure that you're aware of the immense amount of clout that the DQ series has. This may not be the death of the PSP, but it is definitely a solid kick in the junk.
kick in the junk? After the godawful pink colour, I m convinced that the PSP is a female console or a cross-dressing one ;p
I've never been a fan of DQ, not because I hate it or anything of the sort. It just never appealed to me enough to pick up a title and play it. Might change with this release though.
Hey those figures on Magicbox.com, where it says "total," are those total for the month, or for the whole year? I assume they aren't the total numbers of a console ever sold, becasue I can't imagine there only being 1,700 Xboxes in the whole country of Japan.
A lot of people here don't seem to understand what this means. DQ8 is THE best selling PS2 game of all time, and it's been available for what, 18 months? This will convince the half of Japanese games that don't already have them to buy a DS. I wouldn't be surprised if when this came out there was a DS sold for every person in Japan.
yes, the pink DS is also lame. nevertheless, the lameness of the "pink all around" found on the pink PSP is not rivaled. honestly. White PSP on the other hand owns everything handheld, even DS lite white.
You're not counting the rest of the world: go to any casual gamer and ask him if he knows what FF is (the answer will be a "yes" follow by a big "duh!") then ask him what DQ is... *cricket sound* So yeah, DQ is big in japan (as yihad mania is in every arab country) but you cant compete against FF and its loyal emo-fans in the US and europe...
