    Confirmed

The Sony PSP Go is today being reported to have "completed" its production and shipment in Japan, seemingly foreshadowing a worldwide discontinuation of sales. Such is the word from Impress Watch, which cites an official statement from Sony Computer Entertainment that promises support, firmware updates, and repairs for the PSP Go, but no further stock of the handheld

When you do something you do it right, but the Go was halfarsed at best with a smaller screen which was even more exposed to scratches than the original, no UMD support for all the users that already had games in that format, paltry storage capacity (16GB? is that a joke? they could've fitted a 60GB 1.8 HDD for half the price) and worst of all a truly crazy MSRP, considering it was a revision of an already old console.

Lets just hope that whoever worked on this thing isn't behind the NGP

The PSPGo was nothing more than a halfassed attempt to get a piece of the Apple app store style downloadable games market.

It was a experiment. An expensive ($300 in some places) half assed experiment.

PSP is massively alive here in Japan. It's outselling the 3DS right now. Loads of people have them on trains; they are very popular bits of kit.

Over in the west however, it's another story.

Hmm, I beg to differ. Every kid I see playing games is always using a DS. I very really see a kid playing games on a PSP or PSP-Go. In fact I've NEVER even seen a PSP-Go in the open

People are ashamed of it probably..

jokes aside, I wouldn't mind me a white one if the price was any better. It's not that comfortable to grip either.

I was quite interested in the PSPGO for a time, but since the entire PSP library was not available for DD, and the cost, I passed... perhaps when the remaining stock hits the bargin bins i may decide to get one....

You don't ride the train ... and Martin was referring to people. I see a lot of both, but probably a few more PSPs than DS units. Best one ever was a salaryman w/ a pink DS though. Camera worthy moment, but didn't have mine.

Ah, people still play games on the train? I could never do it. Always found the movement off putting plus the person next to you constantly looking at the screen while pretending not to.

One thing I do miss about the train though are the comfortable seats and when some nice lady falls asleep on you. Hate it when some git would fall asleep on me though. YUCK!

The funny thing is if Sony would have just released some sort of converter to move UMD discs to the GO it would done a hell of a lot better. Even better would have been if you could also used that converter to play the games on a PS3. That would have opened up a whole new segment of people like me who want some of the PSP games but don't play portables enough to invest in a system.

    Missed opportunity I say.

The PSPGo is a brilliant system, its the perfect form factor compared to the brick that the PSP is. Sure, no UMD drive, but I had no issues with games prior to the unit being hacked, now I certainly dont with it BEING hacked. Id love to pick up another for safe keeping.

The problem was that the idea needed a whole number of services to work. For example why didnt sony offer free copies of games to people who already owned those on UMD? They could ask them for serial codes, BFD.

A iPSP (like the DSi) would have been a better choice, with a touchscreen so it could be more easily used as a PMP and to easily navigate through PSN menus. That way a price hike would have been more reasonable.
