Hmm, a no no gift? Hmm, now I know I've been told about this in the past. Let's think. hmmmmmmm. Nope, it's not coming to me but I have a very good quiz question to post once this one has been solved.

While that is definitely something I would not recommend giving someone, it's not one of the traditional ones.

The easy one is scissors. Symbolizes cutting off the relationship. Could mean cutting off balls too I guess.

    Snip (Pun Intended)

Well now that the present one is solved here's another.

QUESTION - Why is it considered EXTREMELY bad to pass food from one set of chopsticks to another? This is a bit tricky but I'm sure GaijinPunch, Tatsujin and ASSEMbler will know the answer.

Oh thats easy, it's because after a creamation the relatives will pick up any bones with chopsticks and pass them to another relative who also has chopsticks before they get put into a urn, so it's considered bad to do so with food. Next you'll probably ask about stick chopsticks in rice. ;)

Shit, I didn't know that. I just thought everyone left the food in the middle b/c it was easier that way...that and it would take way more skills to pass the food w/ chopsticks.

What did the Osaka Stock Exchange do before any other stock exchange in the world?

It's mentioned in a lot of Japanese / Tokyo guide books under food / customs so I would have thought it was common knowledge to anyone that had picked up a book on visiting Japan (probably counts out most gamers visiting Japan  )

As for the Osaka stock exchange, hmm, I only know one thing about the OSE so I would geuss it was the first to sell stock options.

Not me. I hate all that tourism shit. I do things by ear :) Not always the best way mind you but it's the way I like to get around.

As for Osaka stock exchange, did they trade rice before anyone else?

I'm guessing it's something along the lines of first to go to an all electronic trading floor?

I'll probably go with 'first stock exchange with nuclear-powered robots as traders'.

Either that or 'luncheon meat as stock option'.

That's it. Although it wasn't really an electronic trading floor... just electronic trading period. Back then though, as a firm, you had to physically have at least one employee in Osaka "putting in orders for you". Of course, that just meant you ran a line through that person's office.

Fact: Until about 18 months ago they had done very little to update their systems since it's inception. Price feeds were on 64k lines, and orders were sent down even slower lines.

I've always thought that these were derivatives/variations of translation/pronunciation, but I couldn't point at a source for that thinking without doing some googling - this page offers some reasonable explanations: http://www.answers.com/topic/names-of-japan
