The Space World 1997 demo of Pokémon Gold is on TCRF

It's one more proto than we had yesterday, so it's all good to me

 

I love how much is included in the debug rom, you can literally battle whatever you want at any level you want. You can evolve Pokemon in this, moves are learned at appropriate levels, and the town map looks complete (and totally different from anything). I was completely skeptical about this being supposedly 80% complete, but it's clear that this version was the plan until they decided to scrap it in favor for a more advanced Gameboy Color version with the extra features like Gender, RTC and such.

 

There is actually genders in this version, you can only see them on your PC though (the one in your room works if you use debug and it's one of the menus in the in-game debug mode).

But yeah, i wasn't expecting it to be this complete, some of the hacks that will try and piece it into a somewhat playable experience will be cool.

 

Wow, I didn't even try the PC's in the debug since they didn't work in the non debug(at the very most, some text about a Pokemon Journal Website). I figured they'd be the same, but damn, in the debug they seem to have their normal functionality! It's interesting, I guess Gender was planned at this point, but they hid it in the demo since I suppose it wasn't finished yet.

 

I've never played Pokemon, it's not my type of game, but only hearing about this proto's background make me really interested in it.

 

Such an awesome thing to see released! Would be interesting to know the exact origin of these 4 ROMs.

Yeah just read through TCRF articles and I am just, amazed.
This has absolutely made my day. Considering I have the flu and was down and out and then to see this.
Wow.
I seen the beta/unused Pokemon sprites the other day and was amazed - but it didn't trigger anything to say that this was released.
Well, I have them and I have enjoyed looking around this little bit.

Yeah, this is easily my favourite leak since RE1.5 found its way onto the net. G/S/C are my favourite in the series by far so it's really cool to see such a different version of it. I'm glad we got what we got though

But the game world in this version looks far better than the final imo. Palm trees, cacti, snowy buildings makes the final version look kinda bland in comparison. I suppose thats why they were having issues with fitting it onto a cart
