Well, I was just thinking about this website and the fact that I've never even come close to encountering another member from here...which made me consider...

What would a ASSEMblergames.com meetup be like? Where? When? What would it be like?

I know its entirely impossible due to the worldwide nature of these forums...your location would have to most likely be the Eastern US, or the UK.

Would it be the single greatest video game related spectacle ever? Probably. Just imagine lots of obscure Japan stuff, unreleased, rare, and overly expensive video games wall to wall in some venue...

Public, Private? Like a giant exhibit...or a friendly get together to play games.

    Just a fun thought!

(PS: This stems from my own desire to start my own video game convention. They always seem underorganized and underattended...and generally unappealing to me. A couple irritating people at one I attended kept my eyes on a constant roll. I feel I could do something better.)

I'm not so sure. My wife and I were online a while back and stumbled across images of some pretty rare development equipment at a gaming convention. As we scanned, we became increasingly concerned by the people that attended these things. No offense to anyone, but although I fully accept and embrace the inner nerd in me, I do well to contain it internally and have few external expressions or signs.

I'd have to have some assurances that I wasn't going to end up in a room full of people wearing t-shirts with "My other console's a dev kit" and cheap supermarket shirts with pens in the top pocket.

    ;-)

Oh, you need to find the sound! It's a clip from the classic 90's film "Office Space", if you remember that. It is in my opinion the origin of "The Office" and far funnier too. The office geek nerd who has actually been sidelined SO many times, his desk is shifted out of the office and into the basement. Only he doesn't realise he has been sacked. Nobody can get this through to him, with dramatic results.

It's well worth digging out of the collection, or the bargain bin in any video (jeez, do they even called them "video" stores these days) store.

I've known and worked with people like this before, I couldn't take a room full of 'em. Anyway, I am just pulling peoples legs, they know how wonderfully tolerant I am... to a point!

I've attended some lanparties (or whatever it's called in english) and had lots of fun thought I didn't really play games.. was there more for the scene part: coding, tracking :)

I don't visit them anymore.. the age of the people that's attending them these days has drop down to like 10.. and everyone is hiting there keyboards and scream and plays CS all day *shudders* :noooo:

I'm going to london tomorrow, staying til sunday. Thought it's buisness trip (thought my business IS pleasure ^^)

Personally, I'm torn between my love of video games and loathing of about 10% of the people who might attend a public video game event.

Example: Last year I attended the Cinciclassic Game expo in Cincinnati Ohio. While I did meet plenty of nice people (and bought many neato obscure type things)...I had my issues.

    1. Irritating fat man who obviously hated everyone because he was better than them.

    2. Chubby teenager who decided to follow me and my buddy around and continually try to talk to us...but always trying to strike up a conversation out of nowhere on some random topic. I assume he was trying to make new friends, but well, I was not. He was pretty much a groupie. (Parris, I'm pretty sure this is your fear right here.)

    3. The general assumption that just because you like videogames...you're automatically friendly with everybody.

I was perfectly polite to all of these people...because...well...that's just how I am...I just wish I didn't have to deal with a certain percentage of the people there. I really clicked with a lot of people there as well, so it was a good experience.

I think the problem in get togethers or conventions is that though you can easily Ban or Ignore somebody on a message board. It's a lot harder to do so in real life. Plus, with a public event...you have to deal with people fingering all your stuff...theft...lowball offers to buy things you don't want to sell.

It wouldn't happen, we value our privacy and anonymity too much.

Well of course! Your convention is all about child pornography games. Of course you'll want anonymity and privacy.
    </sarcasm>

Are you going to have this convention this year? I'm sure that the past two years you weren't able to participate due to your physical condition.

I remember you telling me about this before, but I can't recall what it is exactly. Did it involve Ranma by any chance?
