As a kid from the 80's and 90's I didn't have internet or magazines to see what games were worth playing. I just played the games that I got from friends and family. Sometimes these games were horrible, but you had nothing else to play so you just played them.

I made a video to showcase the games that shaped my childhood, and I'm curious to see what games shaped yours. You can be totally honest with your picks, noone will laugh at you for loving a **** game, we understand!

Blood Bros from TAD Corporation. I spend my childhood playing this game.

Jambo! Safari from Sega. Yep ...

Colin McRae Rally from Codemasters. I never liked racing games before this masterpiece. Still the best racing game of all times in my opinion.

Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive from Spellbound. Amazing Pyro Studios Commandos clone, i loved it so much.

Battlefield 1942 from Digitall Illusions. The best online game ever, in my opinion, and the only good game in Battlefield series (except Road to Rome). Incredible game. Unfortunately after 1942 DICE hired Trauma Studios (Desert Combat developers) and the series went down the toilet.

Zork, loderunner, mech warrior and microsoft simulator. Because my Father was top management for a national video game company in the 80's, I was put in front of arcade video games growing up as a babysitter of sorts. I was spoiled with the credit switch or free buckets of tokens for latest games at funway freeway and laser one, two national level arcades. I started working in the video game industry when I was 12 years old.

I wasn't allowed a home system growing up hence listing early pc games. Probably why I enjoy the older systems so much.

Pong, Death Race, Eagle, Space Invaders, Gorf

I'd hate to know how many quarters I spent in those. When my dad (unusually) came into the arcade and saw me playing Death Race I was grounded for a week:highly_amused: I showed him a youtube video of it last year and we had a good laugh :friendly_wink:

    Pac-Man (arcade and 2600)
Super Mario Bros (THE reason I wanted a NES)
Super Thunderblade (that epic box art...it remains etched in my mind forever)
Bionic Commando (fell in love with the grapple technique)
Legend of Zelda / Dragon Warrior (when these games were out, I still remember all the chatter about them and the secrets with my friends at school. It wasn't so much the games, but the mysterious aura about them)

Sonic 2, NHL 95, Vectorman, Sonic 3, and Sonic 3D blast (when I first learned Sonic games could suck).

Thinking a bit more about this, I can definitely throw in those great gaming mags of the 80's and early 90's. Without our monthly fix of EGM, Nintendo Power and Gamepro, my schooldays would have been boring. Nothing like seeing first pics and details on some long-awaited title in those hallowed pages and then talking about it excitedly with friends at school. I guess that's what I miss most about gaming today...that sense of mystery and magic is largely gone now.

First that came to mind were Zelda: Link's Awakening (GB) and Pokemon Gold/Silver (GBC), then probably Sim City 2000 (PC/DOS), Traps'n Treasures (Amiga) and Zak McKracken (either C64 or Amiga, can't remember which). There's been other important games for me, tho - F-Zero X also came to mind almost instantly - so I can't say with absolute certainty...

Popeye, Mario bros and pacman for the 2600. I didn't have a lot of games as a child because I could stay content with a game for a while (anywhere from 6 to 9 months).

Super Mario Bros, Civilization 1, Pokemon Blue, WWF War Zone, Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

Super Mario Kart wasn't quite influential enough for me I don't think...

In any case I ended up with a general distaste for genres viewed as stereotypically "western" like FPS, WRPG, sim auto racing...
As well as home computers other than the Commodore 64.

Earthworm Jim 2, Vectorman, Crash Bandicoot 2, Half Life, and Star Fox 64. I have a lot of great memories associated with those games. All great games, and I continue to play them to this day.

That'd be arcade games: SMB, Pitfall II: Lost Caverns, Ninja Kid, 1943, Contra and few other Speccy/C64 classics.
