First one must notice - I'm European, I need a PAL screen for my gaming needs. However, I am looking for (and have heard you can actually find) the following features in a modern VGA screen and/or LCD TV Widescreen (time to move on....) Progressive scan (time to catch up with the US guys) VGA/RGB(scart)/S-VHS in (the basics And obviously it must be a flat screen display. PAL _and_ NTSC support (I know they're out there somewhere) 50Hz/60Hz (I guess this is a given?) Is there anyone who know where I might get somthing that can cure my needs? (this will be my only TV/gaming screen in the house, so 17" is the minimum) Is £ 400-500 too optimistic for this?
the things your looking for will propably cost you a bit more since all the smaller lcd tv screen are very low on features. We have a panasonic screen in the living room that has everything your talking about the only drawback is that it cost 2500 euro's
My JVC tv has all that but without progressive scan, the positive point about my JVC is that I got it used for 100 pounds. It also accepts NTSC through the rf socket which is a bit of a rarity. Rich
Don't bother with LCD TV's at the moment, they are still a "novelty" item. For the price of a 17" LCD you can get a far superior CRT type TV, with probably 4x the screensize as well.
Wow, that is indeed very cool. My own TV only does NTSC thru RGB, and the one downstairs can do composite NTSC but the colours look wasted (thats why I dont play my NGCD that much :smt022 )
Very true tach. You can get a 32" widescreen with everything on it for arround 700-800 euro's. The only drawback is you'll have one big heavy power eating beast of a tv.
I wouldn't say ass, we have a 26" lcd from panasonic in the living room and the picture is superb with gameing on my gamecube via official RGB cable, it looks better then on my own 28" phillips wide screen with 100hz screen.
I have a Panasonic TX32PL10-C in the livingroom. 32inch wide flatscreen. http://www.comparestoreprices.co.uk/images/pa/panasonic-tx32pl10c.jpg It has RGB scart (but only through 1 of the 2 sockets), S-VHS, 100hz screen refresh and is compatable with 50/60hz. It cost £900 new, but this was a year or so ago. You can get this year's model for about £700, i believe. Tis a bad-ass gaming TV. The picture is amazing and all my consoles look great running through RGB Scart. So um, yeah, Panasonic TVs kick ass. And the damn thing's gonna last me till I can get a 42inch plasma monitor for the same price (a looooong time).....
They rarely (if ever) support PAL. This is even less likely on LCD screens with their fixed amount of pixels, as PAL has a higher resolution.
i dont want lcd, just a nice flat screen tv with all the good stuff he mentioned and pal support if possible, anyone knows a good model? in my school they have a zenitt tv "damn school is new" and all the tvs have like vga out and crap , they are 1337 xD
well there's one but it's little(?) over your budget however does pretty much all you ask for. Widescreen Progressive scan DVI/VGA/RGB(scart)/Component/S-Video/Composite FP PAL/NTSC support 50Hz/60Hz I'm talking about the Plasma screen/TV and personally couldn't be happier - and the amount of space we've saved. however it's more like AUD8000-10,000 for HD model, unfortunately. Now back to regular channel... over here I've heard good things about Rank CRT TV which is really a big size HD monitor that acts like TV... has pretty much all you listed above although not sure about RGB as haven't played it personally... search this forum for more information. cheers
god dammit, i feel like the only poor mofo here xD all ya have plasma and crap, is it because i have no job and i am 16? xD
The main problem is that is HAS to be a flat screen, so a regular TV will not work. (space issue) However, I am also open to a regular flat computer screen with the above mentioned features (although in the end I have VGA cables for Xbox and DC at the moment, so if I buy one for PS2 and GC I might be able to live with a VGA-only screen - but I would still prefer that there was also a RGB-in) Would this request be easier to fullfill?
Not with your budget i'm affraid, all flat screen tv's (lcd or plasma) that meet your requirements are all in the 2000+ euro's range and i've yet to see a lcd monitor that has all your needs so it's down to 2 choises imho: 1 save up for a better screen that does what you want 2 make room and buy a normal crt screen tv that has everything you want and fits your current budget.
I could go as high as £1000 (and maybe a bit higher for that must-have screen), but I'm afraid that's where my budget yells "Please stop, please...." Problem is I'm living abroad - and that I really want to be able to take this investment with me home in a year or two. A 32" regular TV has no change of not being left to rotten down here, completely wasting the money. I'm been living abroad for almost a year now (UK and Hungary), and all I've been able to take with me is a Nomad, Mega Games 6 and Gunstar Heroes. I know, great games to be found there, but I'm really starting to crave for some more gaming-action
If you are going to be moving around, buying a big TV, even a TFT one is going to be a loser. If it doesn't cost 1/2 the cost of the TV to ship it, I would be very surprised.
That's why I'm so grateful that the company I work for will pay my shipping costs (however, I still don't want to be dragging a regular full size TV with me all around Europe) Back to topic - I need a cheap and perfect gaming screen
get one of those slick apple 30inch monitors ^^ , but i think they are 3000.... they are great tho... best lcd's i've seen, i think that is actually made by samsung, btw has anyone mean samsung means to come? is that really true or just some damn flash that takes away 10 mins of your life? :smt067
