Now that I have played around with it for awhile, here is a general look at what the Wii offers at launch, and what it has. When you first get the Wii, it comes in two blue boxes. No SD card, and Wii sports is in a cheap paper cover (Like the Metroid Prime Hunters demo came in). Also, the cord for the censor bar (The part that reads the Wii remote's movements), is very thin and looks like it can break easily. Also, Nintendo took the time to make a seperate manual for each language dominant in North America: Spanish, French, and English. Now, to the system itself. First thing you will notice is that the you have to use the pointer for EVERYTHING for the menu's on the Wii, unlike the games that usually use the Analog stick for menu's (And I have not found a option to change it yet). Secondly, updates do take awhile and will sometimes fail to connect and cancel out. Third, a good thing: The Wii has 2162 blocks built in for saving (Although you can only use it for the virtual console and not gamecube games), so you really don't need a SD card right now (Zelda only takes up one block). Like stated on gamespot, the Wii weather and news is not enabled at launch, only the Mii section (Character creation), pictures from the SD card, and the Shop for the Virtual console games. In terms of the game selection, there is a few things: Mario Bros, Sonic, Zelda, Mario 64 (Nothing good in the SNES section). So far (Correct me if I am wrong, I browsed through it quickly): NES is 500, SNES is 800, and N64 is 1000 Wii points. Also, you can use your credit card to buy Wii points in certain amounts, just like Xbox live. Good news for wide screen TV owner, Gamecube fans, it runs better on the Wii then on the gamecube. The 16.1 widescreen you select in the options also works for Gamecube games, and looks far better then using them on the gamecube (In terms of widescreen). Yes, there are jaggies, but it is a fairly clear picture for the most part. I also tested 3 games (Resident evil, Metal Gear Solid: TTS, and Wind Waker), and I noticed a similar link: The screen is very, very dark (And it isn't the resolution on the TV, either). They all ran extremely well, to say the least. Anywho, i'm going to go play Zelda for a bit. If you have any questions, i'll test them out on the Wii.
Yeap. I want you to please try pictures, mp3s , and connecting USB devices to its sexy bum. Also, please try mariokart DD and see if the option of LAN is present. In addition, please tell us how PSO reacts in the Wii. What are your impressions on the noise levels, compared to gamecube? The drive speed?the drive noise? Is the rumble good enough? How does the Wii classic controller map the n64 buttons?
Well, I can try pictures, mp3, and USB devices later tonight and see if I can get a USB keyboard to work (That, or a USB internet connection to my cable modem). Unfortunatly, I no longer have PSO or Mario Kart, but I dare say that PSO won't work online (Just a guess, though. And I base that on guessing that the PSO hardware tries to find a Gamecube internet connection and not Wii internet connection. It may work, though). Noise levels are minimum, a few clicks here and there, but I don't hear much from the actual system itself. Rumble is not as strong as the 360 controller, but it is there, and it is fine. In truth, I forgot to pick up a classic controller, so I won't be able to test it until later.
small note, You made 1 error. The VC does not have "Super Mario Bros.", it has "Mario Bros.". Which is the nes version of the original Mario Bros. arcade game. Kind of sucks no super mario bros yet.
Ah, I see. I skimmed through the list in a few seconds, so I didn't get a good look. Why the hell would they put the shitty version on there and not the one everyone likes?
Well, no go for using a USB internet connection, which is a major disappointment. Further more, reading the manual reveals that Nintendo wants you to buy a LAN Adapter to connect to a router or cable internet. Sort of a waste of resources, in my opinion.
Just tried Pictures. Apperantly, the only format supported is JPEGs and not any other format. EDIT: correction, just read the manual. Here is the supported formats: Images can only be JPEGs up to 8192 x 8192 Video has to be .mov files up to 848 x 480 Audio is only MP3 What the crap? Why only .mov files? The photo channel sure is dissappointing compared to the 360's abilities.
sweet irony. People are running super mario bros already on the PS3. Just scroll down to the Fedore on Ps3 topic.
So what, I've been running it on my xbox for quite some time and my dreamcast before that. Can't say I feel like a bad guy since I've got the NES-cart. Virtual Console NES-games feel kind of silly. I'd rather pay for the cartridge and then emulate the games on my xbox
oh its ok Buffi. piracy is neither here or there for me, just be afraid of Paulo, very afraid O_O:lol:
Ive barely even been on for the last month or so... lol edit: Ive actually barely posted for weeks...
PSO doesn't recognize the WiFi hardware as a gamecube BBA, so for now PSO and I'd wager all BBA using games are SOL. Hopefully Nintendo can work something out such as an emulation or passthrough layer. I haven't heard anything as to how the Cube compatibility works so I can't comment on any future possibilities. On the plus side PSO responded the same way when you eject the disk as it does with an actual cube, potentially allowing for the AR to work out just fine. I haven't tried my AR yet and I don't have any import games so FreeLoader will be untested.
Can you show me a movie of when the system starts up? does it show the Gamecube logo splash screen when you boot up a GC game?
ok here are my general opinions. 1) Wii sports is a total disapointment. Bowling is fantastic but the rest is meh to horible (and i really wanted golf to work, yet it just does not & i use to play golf a few years back). Over all I would not purchase it unless it was like $20. So a big F-U to NOA for forcing me to buy it. 2) Monkey ball Single player game rocks. If you're a fan of the first two, you will love this game. I sadly just wish the map could be tilted further. Sometimes it does not feel like i'm really tilting it all that much 3) Monkey ball Mini Games. Many suck but some good ones. Shockingly I am loving Frisby Golf. It actualy does work pretty well. On the other hand Monkey Golf is really broken. I tried to play though all mini games but soo many are boring and just dont work. I gladly will play some again but over all it's not worth buying the game for (single player should be the reason to buy). 4) I WAS RIGHT!! my right hand rist is already starting to bother me from swinging my arm so much to play Wii sports. This is something I hate to be right on since I will probably spend more time on 360 games insted because the controlls hurt my wrist after playing for an hour. Thats all for now. Waiting for my sys to update so I cacn download Mario 64. Even tho I got a brand new system, I for some reason want to play M64 again insted. --edit-- If you are wondering. Yes I am getting the GCN zelda, not the Wii version. If my wrist is bothering me already, i wont survive zelda. No biggie tho, my nephews are going to let me have their GCN disc that has OOT & MM on it. Then gonna pick up wind waker again. I will be all set ( all 3d zelda to play on my wii).
Wii Sports isn't that bad with multiplayer at least. I played 2 and 3 players and thought it was pretty fun especially tennis.
ok time to update. I just got done playing more of the single player game on monkey ball. Holly crap this game is probably the 2nd best in the series. (first is the first one of course). Gone are the crapy luck levels of SMB 2. Now i'm really starting to get depressed that there are only 100 levels. Screw mini games, i want 100 more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It doesn't but I can make a movie of what it does exactly later if you like. What it does do is show the bios icon where the disk channel is and when selected it plays the audio the cube boot up did. When selected to play it loads the game directly without any bios sequence.
I picked up Red Steel today. IGN review is pretty on point, as in the controls are not. However - the review goes on about how much there is to like about the game, and that's accurate too. It reminds me alot of Maken X for Dreamcast, which I really liked for some reason. Don't rag too hard on Wii Sports, they're all alot of fun (except baseball)
