All interesting reading as I can not get my Wii in the UK lanuch date as I am going to the US :noooo: Has anyone picked up the steering wheel thing that was released or the standard type controller? Or the Wii Play game, with more mini games etc?
How is the box to the US Zelda? Saw the Japanese one today olong with the other games. They come in white DVD cases with Wii printed on the inside. The Zelda case is very nice complete with silver backgrounds and silver Wii logo. Yakumo
Eh, they always do that with the Japanese Zelda's. They sort of stopped the gold tradition around the Oracle games.
Can't say I blame them. When someone who doesnt know Zelda sees tha package of the JPN versions, i bet he's more attracted than the US one, where you can't really make-out what sort of a game it must be. An attractive package is always good! just look at Iron Sword on NES! (Fabio xD )
Ran some tests today on the GCN compatability. Is it me, or does the Wii run GCN games better? They seem sharper and seem to have less slowdown. EDIT: I should go into more detail (Couldn't type as much due to my other keyboard being screwy). I first ran MGS: The Twin Snakes on the Wii, then on the GCN in the same areas, and then again on the Wii. (Notes: All on the same TV, and used everything you would get right out of the box when you would buy both the Wii and GCN). Wii seemed a bit faster in some of the slowdown areas and seemed to be not as blurred then the GCN version. Granted, this could be my own vision (and the slowdown not always being consistant when on the GCN). I'll try it with some other games later on (If I can find my second MGS: TTS disc, I could run both at the same time and switch between the two). Any games that have a decent amount of slowdown?
It's not impossible, since it is the same processor at a higher speed, so maybe nintendo clocked the GCN mode at higher than 485Mhz (and the GPU accordingly). Also, the 90nm die , means reduced heat, so even at 485Mhz, that's better performance.
I wonder if it will fix some of the emulated games, such as Zelda: Collectors Edition. Although I do seriously doubt it.
I will be able to answer that next month. My nephews don't play it anymore and are going to let me have it.
Holy crap my friend brought his Wii to my house and that shit is fun as hell, just like I thought it would be! The only problem I see right now is some people won't like the games selection. Like he bought Zelda, and it was cool and I thought it had really good graphics and stuff like that (Kept reading crap about how it doesn't) but I'm not a big Zelda fan so I don't totally look forward to playing a huge game like that, you know. But man it was fun. I like Tennis! I hope Sonic Wild Fire or whatever its called now will be good! I played Donkey Konga and RE4 on the Wii and it definetly looks better. It's a lot sharper.
Personally, I thought the overworld and character models in Zelda look awesome, while some of the earlier dungeons look like crap. Also, it may be me, but I thought RE4 looked a bit odd in some places. May just be the area I am in, though.
Eh, i'm just using the cables that came with the Wii. I'm sure it would look much better with Component cables.
the fact that nintendo changed their multi-out AV connector should account for some sharpnes imho a friendly advice. if you can't afford an HDTV, you can either split the HV sync from the DAC on the component cable to get RGBHV (and then end it in a D-sub15pin , aka vga connection) or go to ebay and get one of those component to VGA boxes (the cheap ones are like 50 dollars, the expensive ones aroun 350 )
Fortunatly, I do have a HDTV, but it looks like crap with composite (blurry, etc). Are the stores selling component yet? I didn't see any at Best buy or Circuit City at launch.
Yea, lwizardl has the same problem (and in extent, so do I) . it seems that IGN was speaking out of its fat ass when it said that they would be available on launch in stores. In this day and age, composite is what RF was back in the n64 days. An option for the technologically impaired It's striking though, how many cheap sets have composite instead of S-video at least. oh well..
I can't even find the cables on Nintendo's site! It's like the GCN to GBA cables, they wern't even available in stores when the first game that supported it (Sonic Adventure 2: Battle) came out. EDIT: Nevermind, I just found them on Nintendo's site. Granted, they are sold out until December the 18th... EDIT 2: Just looked at Gamespots website. Says the cable will ship on the 15th....So yeah, HD owners get screwed out until then. Fortunatly, I have a decent TV I can use for TP.
funny. I got my GBA-to-GC cables from a small toy-shop before I bought Mariokart for GBA, which i think was before SA2:B came out (which was the first game to support the interface).
Wait, how did Mario Kart hook up the GCN again? It's been so long. Anywho, what area of the country was this in? Tennessee pretty much had 0 GBA to GCN cables when SA2:Battle came out.
mariokart didn't hook up. it was just relevant dates that i log in my head =) This was in Greece, Athens..being Europe, it came pretty fast!
