What a complete and utter fucking joke justice has become. 15 years for a homeless 54 year old man who stole $100 and voluntarily gave himself up. 3 years for a 55 year old CEO who stole $3 billion and probably went on the run. I'd be interested to know the race of the judge to be honest.

It would be nice to know but 15 years over a measly $100 and then not even putting up a fight? You'd think at the $3billion point 3 strikes would go right out the window.

That and Louisiana isn't on the list of states that have it in effect.

It's called addiction. Your body craves nicotine and you feel like shit when you don't get it. When you do get it you feel satisfaction, but it's not because smoking is enjoyable. It's because you've eliminated the shitty feeling of withdrawal temporarily. There's a difference between "I'm smoking to feel good" and "I'm smoking to not feel bad." For heavy smokers the satisfaction comes the latter, and it's an endless circle. I've been a smoker for a while and I resent the fact that I put my body in the situation where it needs a chemical to feel normal. It wasn't like that when I was born.

In the end everyone is different. I've lost about 30 KG over the years and compared to quitting smoking, losing weight is a walk in the friggen park, but I know for some people it's extremely difficult. I'm not that much of a drinker so I can go for a night or a while without any alcohol and it doesn't bother me. When I hear about people who can have one smoke a week I figure they're in the same boat. Different people are drawn to different things.

Shouldn't be how it is, but I don't doubt the truth of it. Sobering.

Hardly fair but there were probably a number of mitigating factors that came into play here. First off Louisiana isn't known as a bastion of justice. Second, The threat of violence was a major one and possible priors probably another. The most likely thing though was mandatory minimums. They sound good in theory but don't do so well in practice.

Situations like this have nothing to do with security and everything to do with political correctness. The TSA are forced to search people randomly because heaven forbid they actually come out and say that they could save everyone a lot of time and headaches by only searching Arab males and females between the ages of 16 and 36. By searching everyone they are probably saving themselves billions of dollars in fines and lawyers fees to settle "discrimination" cases.

So I have two more bigots to add to my list.

Jonathan and Jenna Farro (I believe they're something to do with the Josh Farro from paramore but he is just as much as a homophobe)

Weeaboos, is just like calling a white man a wigger. Which basically means, wannabe nigger. How fortunate I understand gibberish bullshit in too many languages.

Also, "weeaboo" chicks are extremely freaky and very open minded, at least in Mexico - and well, they're pretty fun to ... um... cavort with. Sweet Japanese-style anime voices and cosplay and kinky appreciation for videogames and anime.

Oh, having arcade sticks and retro games, speaking Japanese AND being a judge in cosplay contests is like a magnet in some circles.

I, at least, had my share of fun.

So I've been reading a book called "Trick or Treatment" which attempts to take a rational, scientific look at alternative therapies. It's been fun, if predictable. Mostly I'm content to let the quacks carry on quacking away to whoever stupid enough to pay them - it's none of my business. If someone want to pay £10 for a tiny jar of mystically-imbued sugar balls that's their prerogative and it's not my place to tell them they can't.

The last bit I read was horrifying, though. I just didn't realise the extent to which bad and even dangerous advice is dished out by these clowns. Case in point, a small study where a young girl went to ten homeopaths in London, saying that she was going to be spending two and a half months travelling overland through West Africa, where there's a high risk of the most dangerous strain of Malaria, and asking their advice on the matter. Obviously, they all said "here, take our placebo, be one with the moon goddess" or whatever but when asked if it should be taken with or instead of conventional anti-malarial medicine every single one advised her not to take the real medicine. I mean, sweet fucking Christ. That's no longer just harmless pseudo-medicinal quackery, a mostly benign and typically well-meaning waste of people's time and money. That's potentially lethal medical advice, being dished out by people who have no qualifications in the matter, no scientific basis for their claims and no framework for supervision of their suggestions.

I just cannot understand how this shit is legal. Why are these people not being shut down for practising medicine without a licence?
