Funny thing that happened today in Chile:

The LGE stands for "Ley General de Educacion" or "General Education Law", and it has been very criticized for a number of reasons.

From the threatening email thread which was going off topic.

I think we can both agree that there is a situation that involves Iran at the moment otherwise there wouldn't be round after round of UN sanctions. I think though that you would probably be surprised as to what my perceptions and opinions on the matter are. As for the media... You will get no arguments from me there.

Playing Devil's Advocate I would remind you that neither the US or Israel has any financial interests in Iran so I wouldn't put too much faith in that. While the US and Israel would receive pressure from those that do if such an event were to become imminent it wouldn't be the roadblock it would normally be.

You are correct though that Iran isn't Iraq which is why the US could afford it. If such an event were to happen it would more than likely consist of air-strikes only.

I admit US negotiations have been shall we say "less than stellar" in recent memory but do I believe that the tide is starting to turn with the items I listed before as some examples. I would hardly call Bill Clinton a shining example of negotiation though. NAFTA, Don't Ask Don't Tell, Somalia, and the first N. Korean agreement are just a few of the fine examples of his negotiating failures and that's just off the top of my head.

I think in this case you have sorely misjudged what the reactions of the Jewish-Americans in Congress not to mention the Jewish-American public at large. If there one thing they want it is to assure Israel’s survival. If Israel, the US, or both for that matter believe that assurance lies in a first-strike on Iran believe me they will be lock-step behind that decision.

You would think that they have no financial interests in the Gem of the Middle East? Iran is the house of many natural resources. Henry Kissinger has been after Iran ever since he was first involved in foreign politics, and up to this date.

Controlling Iran is the key to controlling the Middle East at large. The Arab countries have long submitted for the most part in exchange for oil money and prosperity and it is Iran that poses as the regional super-power having all the resources it needs to be self-sufficient and having made enormous business deals with the whole planet, from Africa to South America and Europe, China, Russia , etc.

Iran has more than satisfactory reserves of oil, uranium, natural gas, minerals and other raw materials that today's world uses.

Strangely enough, it looks like the sentence "cut me a break" has just been legitimised by The AVGN which makes me smile. So cut me a break, cut me some free slag, and give me a break. Is A OK in American English ;-) I wasn´t the first to say it, but I am not the last either. Wow my first non political post here in this thread :)

And yet, is thanks to the high prices of oil and their are finally able to afford such luxuries as MB Eclass cars for the teheran police...

Theres huge amounts of uranium ore in argentina yet nobody here or there gives a damn about it. And what are those precious raw materials? unless its copper (which chile is making a killing with) I doubt it can replace oil or gas revenues.

I agree on iran's influence on the region, but iraq was pretty big too, and it only took a series of bombings (like the one on their reactors back in the 80s) to start a series of events that ultimately ended in their downfall and present situation.

The photoshoped photos carry a message: they dont really care about the israeli menace (they know mossad knows everything about their weak arsenal) is all about driving the price of oil up by making the markets believe a war there is inminent, and that the actual supply of oil is endangered.

The funny part is that these prices are driving the investment in synthetic fuels up, which are the real alternative to fossil (fuck bio). Some years from now refineries will be able to make everything from naphtas to kerosene (ie: car and jet fuel) from mostly garbage.

The impact on oil-export dependant countries will be as big as artificial fertilizers were on guano exporters like peru during the last century.

Let us hope that day comes soon.

Somehow I don't feel too bad about that. I can't think of anything better than to not give these countries full of freaks and lunatics my money. Since this is the unmoderated thread, I'm going to come right and out and say "Fuck the Middle East," I no longer care about them or thier damn oil, if all those people can't get thier heads out of thier asses and coexist then I say screw them, let'em chop each other's heads off.
