Lets see, what could MS do to increase X360 sales? Fix the RLODs? Nah... Release more games? 1t g0tz H4l0 trhee!!!11!!one Make it cheaper? boriiing! Release a blatant copy of the wiimote? BINGO! Apparently they have hired a company (like Nintendo did with Gyration) called Motus to develop this new controller Heres a pic of Motus latest controller called Darwin: Nunchuck and everything people, MS knows what casuals crave! Seriously, what about releasing something even better? what happened to that awesome motion capture tech made by MS? that thing had a billion times more possibilities than any motion controller will ever have, yet we havent seen shit about it since that tech demo in E3. MS is, like always does, denying everything, but if you ask me they're trying to get kids hyped on this, since the "leak" appeared on MTV news first, not exactly the biggest gaming news site out there, and what a coincidence! part of the massive IP conglomerate that unveiled the X360 back in 2005 in what was the biggest infomercial in the history of gaming. The original leak and the article
the new update actually is about a new peripheral. Nice find and a predictable product from MS' side. Good move. Now to fix their console quality
Bit late to the party, and that doesn't look like a real shot, more like some home-living geek's handy work  It would be nice to see what a console could do with the wii-mote and some real horsepower under the hood.
Well obviously they arent going to drop this Xbox too just to release a new one with a wiimote-like controller. Honestly I didnt see it coming: after watching some of MS tech demos in the past I thought they were going for something different, like the motion capture I was talking about. And would be even more excited if they launched a RLOD-proof X360 than this ripoff. Is from a remote prototype from Motus, they're using it to do some tests.
GoH I think you should start a fan-club with some of our wii-hating members here. Nobody stole anything, motion-related technology is a natural evolution and early desire to do so is even manifested by the PowerGlove -despite it being crap.
Wait... Today isn't April 1st? That was obviously going to happen, I though that it'd get released in the next console MS releases, but still... XD
Because there was absolutely nothing in the 16 years between the powerglove and the wiimote. But I agree that it was on the way, the only difference being that Nintendo was enough of a risk-taker to launch it, unlike Sony and MS. Is going to be 3 years from launch this fall, yet it cost pretty much the same.
Actually, everyone steals from everyone else. HCI research has been covering motion stuff for decades.
Almost, yeah time does fly, I still remember that time in the subway with some of my college buddies and we were talking about the X360 show on MTV and how powerful it was compared to PCs at the time. Man I cant believe I'm so friggin old!:crying: Anyway, back on topic: while I would rather like the RLOD to be fixed once and for all, theres no denying that this remote will bring more sales to MS that a bullet-proff X360. I can even see it bundled with the Elite when its released. Plus playing Halo and GoW with this remote should be more fun that with the standard controller, althought still not as precise as WASD.
All that matters is that the controller from microsoft is not a pack-in, so the sall through will be terrible. They can hope that people will port games from wii to 360, but I doubt the controller will generate significant software unique to 360. Nor will it be as nice to use as the Wii one ( I bet it will be overly complicated).
well unless they release patches for games like V.Tennis, Ping Pong, Sega Superstar Tennis and others, I don't see this succeeding like the Wii's indeed. That said, I d buy one if it were supported properly in games - the horsepower is interesting. And to be honest, it's not the motion controls I m a fan of on the Wii, it's the IR pointing.
Yeah me too, and I suppose MS wont be so dumb not to include it. But IMO it will pick up hype pretty fast, since: Wii shortage + X360 installed base + using a pointing device in all FPS for X360 = every single FPS gamer (with a X360) camping outside the store before the remote's launch day. A patch here and there and they can make any game out there compatible. And with the share number of FPS titles on the X360 you guys can bet is going to sell like bagels. Even racing games would be better, and there lots of those for the 'box too.
If I could buy a XB360 for the same price as a Wii, or close to it, AND play Wii-sports type games with motion sensing, I might even buy an XB360 again!
Not that I'm a huge follower of the Wii scene, but aren't the really good games for Wii (that actually make full use of the Wiimote) made by Nintendo. A lot (most) of the third party Wii games are shite. How is a company like MS (with little history of pandering to the casual market) going to change this?
