http://uk.news.yahoo.com/skynews/20071026/tuk-nfl-star-they-speak-english-in-londo-45dbed5.html Priceless! How the fuck can you not know where London is as an adult living in America. It`s so daft it`s almost poetic. Crowder added: "I know (Washington Redskins linebacker) London Fletcher. We did a football camp together. So I know him. "That's the closest thing I know to London. He's black, so I'm sure he's not from London. I'm sure that's a coincidental name."
It`s just somewhere in his 24 years on this planet you would`ve expected him to have heard at least a few things about one of the most famous cities in the world.
Wales? seriously i know zones 1 - 4 max... anything else im lost.... I know hong kong better then i know anywhere out side london. But then again i know where most cities are in the world.
Last time i was in London it sounded like they didnt speak english there either. Damn cockney shit is hard to understand for a foreigner
You are kidding right? We are SWAMPED in US culture of ALL kinds, from the shoes on our feet, the food on our plates, the music on our radios, the TV programmes we have to endure (not because they are American, but because TV is generally shit), films in our cinemas, the consoles we play, we are equally well versed in US media & news coverage as we are on UK events, the lifestyles we aspire too (sic) and the very slang words we speak! No other culture on the planet has had such a deep impact on the British psyche! Often called the 51st State, it is a bit fractured at present, but I do not wish to go into politics here. The three letters N F L have been stamped on a plethora of items for atleast 2 decades. Not a major fan myself, but back in the 1980's when Channel 4 began transmitting NFL games at 4am I did take a passing interest. Had it been at a more reasonable hour my guess it would have taken off better!
Definitely don't know anything about London LOL! I heard from a teacher, in America they concentrate primarily on American geography because: a) It's so bloody big b) Instills patriotism by virtue of ignorance of other cultures I think he may have had a "thing" about America, but it does make some weird sense. Mind you, I couldn't point to New York on an American map because I have had no reason to know it, so it does work both ways.
Isn´t there a Dane playing in NFL ? who is probaly going to break the record for oldest player in NFL ? Or something like that ?
World geography is taught from grade school on up, in pretty much every American school as far as I know. No matter what country you come from, there will always be more emphasis placed on learning the geography of the land you reside in. That's not really something exclusive to America. World History is taught in middle school and high school as well. Learning the location and capitals of all countries is something of a basic requirement from what I remember. Whether a kid actually retains this information is entirely different. I would venture as far to say that Americans are taught more about the history of England than they are about most other foreign countries, probably due to historical ties. Not that I'm trying to stick up for the American education system, because it's far from stellar. Just remember, not everyone is a stereotypical dumb jock, who probably wouldn't have graduated highschool if they weren't given preferential academic treatment because of athletic abilities, such as the person in the "news" article appears to have received. No offense Importaku, but asking if they teach geography in American schools is about as bright as not knowing where London is located. :110:
omg sooo... funny... my room mate is from georgia, he said he was proud of his state after reading this. lol. "I don't know what nothing is."
I remember reading about a survey that showed that some crazy amount like 80% of Americans believe that humans and dinosaurs lived at the same time.
