Yo! i'm going to Florida on the 9th of October for one week. what is there to see and who wants to meet up?
landing in Pensacola and driving down to Orlando, so everything in between that if i still have enough time i'll also visit Miami
Ah. Well as far as gaming shops in Orlando, there's not much. Just gamestop. There are stores called Play 'N Trade which do carry PSX, N64, 8bit (NES), 16bit games and everything in between, but the selection of the old games is average, nothing really that rare. We do have some great parks. Wekiva Springs. Also, as you come down from Pensacola, if you go along I-75, you'll pass exits that lead to Ichentucknee Springs. Rent a tube and take it there to float for a good hour down the river. Water is always a cool 72degrees Faren. Of course you have the mainstream stuff, such as Disney World, Universal, Seaworld. In Tampa there's Busch Gardens which has some great roller coaster rides, and so does Universal. Where will you be coming from?
Key West is very nice and it is a great drive over all those bridges. Only in America would they spend all that money linking a small spit of land to the mainland. In Key West is Hemingway house, with six toed cats. It's bizarre!
If youve never been to Disney, and youre with the right crowd (ie people that arent going to be downers the whole day), then it can still be a lot of fun. Lots of great amusement parks though, such as Islands of Adventure.
FYI. To really enjoy the theme parks you need at least 2 weeks because each one knocks the wind right out of you lol.
I would recommend macarthurbeach.org, every time I've been there I have either found or saw multiple sea turtles and sting rays.
Why, the meth labs, of course! In all seriousness, you should check out Disney World. The park(s) is/are pretty huge, though, so you'll be spending a lot of time walking. It's been quite awhile since I last went, but if they still have the pass where you can go through a shorter line by "registering" to go through the ride early (something of that nature), sign up for it; it's totally worth it. If you're driving, be careful. I hate generalizations, but Florida seriously has some of the worst drivers I have ever seen. There was an accident every few miles down the highway, and it doesn't surprise me with the way people were cutting off and meandering around my parents. "Turn signals? What the fuck are those?"
Germany! I really wanna see Disney World's german area/theme park so i can laugh my ass off about the fake german food they sell and the fact that everyone wears leatherpants, haha I think I'll be in Orlando on the 14 and 15th of October, maybe the 16th too
I really enjoyed Universal when i went there, but you are going during Halloween - and Universal at night during Halloween was fantastic. They throw everyone out early and you have to pay to get back into the night event and be over a certain age (16 i think? might have actually been 21!) and it was well worth it as long as you are into the spirit. Have some photos somewhere i think. All the Disneys were worth seeing too - and i'm not particularly in to disney. uh, just one or two photos : anyways, it was fun : Not sure if it's your thing, but i thought the Kennedy Space Center was awesome. Getting to see Saturn V was well worth the 2 hour or so bus ride out.
There are German speaking employees in the Disney Epcot's German 'town'. I believe they serve beer there, too. I was told the food was authentic, at least the German restaurant there. I do have classes during those days you'll be here in town but we'll see. Maybe can meet up and hang out.
I live about 50 miles east of Pensacola, and honestly, up here there isn't much to do or see. There are a couple of military sites you should hit though, Ft. Pickens is right there in Pensacola, it's a pre-Civil War fort that was used until World War II. They charge around $10 I think to get in, but it's worth it. And right south of me in the middle of Eglin Air Force base is the Air Force Armament Museum. That is free to get in and it has quite a few nifty planes if you're into that sort of thing. They even have a Blackbird out front. If you need directions to either of these just ask me, I'll be glad to help out!
i'm only in Pensacola to visit friends so i don't reeeeally care if it's the party town #1 or not, heh hatter and pikkon you should send me your mobile phone numbers, so we can stay in contact and maybe hang out!
2 hours? I bloody wish! It took us about 8 hours to drive the 40 miles back to our house, although we did go to see one of the shuttle launches.
yeah, i'd imagine it's hell during that time. But the roads were pretty much empty - i remember watching a film on the bus on the way there (from Orlando) and we got to the center before the film ended. Saturn V was on my list of "must see in lifetime" and i thought it was very very impressive. Lost my digital backups, so tempted to go back one day. Would love to see a launch too - all we got to see was the observation deck and one of the huge shuttle loaders. How was the launch experience?
