I collect all sorts of things, mainly electronics. I have several monitors (PVMs, computer monitors, TVs, etc.), lots of speakers and audio equipment, cameras, video equipment, computers, stuff like that. I also collect other media; I have a decent-sized collection of CDs, a small vinyl collection, many Blu-rays and DVDs, a few Minidiscs, etc. I have a lot of books, but I wouldn't really call it a collection since I buy them more to read than to collect.

This might sound weird, but I also collect small objects and toys from various places around the world. I have a habit, any time I go on a trip, of going to a gift shop, and buying the cheapest, tiniest object they have in the store, and then I place them in various places throughout my apartment. For example, I have several Japanese erasers meant to look like food, helicopters, animals, etc. I have a tiny stuffed dolphin that I got in Florida. I have a tiny statue of the Space Needle that I got at the gift shop in the Space Needle. I have a little toy Toyota Supra that I got from an anime store in Boston. Stuff like that.

You also need to realize that "collection" is a loose term. I think a lot of people would argue that a collection needs to be planned or intended for a purpose other than the use of those objects. Others might argue that a collection is simply any series of objects owned by a single person, regardless of whether they were bought to be used or not. Certainly you have to draw the line somewhere - like, you wouldn't consider a person who buys paper towels to clean up spills to be a "collector" of paper towels. But then again, maybe you would. I think it's an interesting thing to discuss.

I collect pig-shaped objects. Piggy banks, pig erasers, pig lighters, pig keychains, pig everything.

I also collect Hello Kitty things that I find cute.

    Weird, I know.

Thanks bro. Samus is my most expensive figure of the lot, but just $20 more than Power Girl, since she's made out of porcelain.

I wish I could collect figures, but they're hard to come by over here. And Comics conventions became very shitty when regular carny-type salespeople took over from people who actually liked comics.

Still, every chance I get, I get one of those little Gatchapon-size girly figures. Lucky Star, especially. I love those girls.

I have two Galaxy Angel PVC figurines, which took me forever to find, but the one that took longest was Yuna Kagurazaka from Galaxy Fraulein Yuna. I wanted that action figure for ages, and never ever found it. And one day, I had money, there was a convention, and it was the first thing I saw when I got in. And the guy who was selling the figures didn't even know what it was. "Yeah, 200 pesos for the chinese cartoon lady".

    Man, that was awesome.

I think so. For example, someone with a medium sized bookshelf that holds all the books that were somehow acquired over the years: I wouldn't call that person a "book collector". A "book collector", in my opinion, would be someone who "collects all Jules Verne books in 1st edition" or "buys all Gallimard Serie Noire books". Or some other factor that goes beyond the average "I bought it and now I store it" because if that counts as collecting, then we'd ALL be collectors of cleaning supplies, birthday cards, photo albums and novels. The term "collector" would separate the average consumer of X from someone who actively tries to acquire more and more of X. That's why they call them collectors and not just consumers.

I, for once, always try to separate my hobbies. I already regret that I called my other stuff "collection" apart from games, records and comics, because I don't really try to actively quantify them. I only buy Lego for plain usage and sometimes it's vintage because it's a nostalgic experience for me, but I don't collect it as such. I feel that if I called my casual purchases "collecting" in public, I may offend someone who has 1000+ boxed Lego sets in his cabinet and is super proud of his Lego collection. The same way I would develop some negative feelings towards a person after proudly stating "I'm a hardcore video game collector" because he purchases scratched PS1 games every once in a while.

I've considered getting a small one on my upper arm that just says my name in katakana. Seems like it would be pretty low risk, unlike getting some weird cartoon character or the name of some girl you just met. On the other hand, I'm hesitant to make any kind of permanent mark on my body, and I'm not a big fan of pain.

Sorry, but I don't really see how tattoos are "things you collect" anyway. -_-

Be careful with the Katakana thing. I had a student a few years back that had his name misspelled in Katakana on his arm, permanently. The tattoo artist did not know about the "nya" combination, and now Mr. Cabañas (pronounced CABANYAS) is mister Cabanías (CA BA NEE-AS).

As a kid I collected basketball cards but got out of those when the prices got stupid and then in the early teens it was comics. Now about the only other thing I collect besides games are firearms. One of the things I like about it is that (for the most part) it doesn't have the "rush factor" of having to buy it now that collecting a lot of other stuff has. Chances are they will still be selling new what I want five, ten, or in some cases fifty years from now.

I can read katakana, so I know how my name would be spelled. My last name might be a little weird because I think there are a couple different ways to spell it, but I would probably just get my first name.
