    Even if it's worthless, i wouln't mind having one just to sit on a shelf.

    It was only available for the japanese market, that alone makes it cool to preserve as a uncommon gaming accessory.

    I got some information from l_Oliveira, but I don't know if it means anything for sure. According to him, his DTL-H20400 unit is compatible with DNAS. But he's got no DTL-H10030 (what's the difference between these two models?)

    @TriMesh, what's the model of the HDD unit that you got? Was it a DTL-H10030?
    @assembler_EX, what are the models of the HDD units?

    I honestly can't remember - I might be able to find it, but most of this stuff is stock in storage. I do remember that it had (for Playstation Tool) printed on the box.

    I would buy a couple depending on the price. Please don't mod them. :)

    I have a "naked" SONY branded Seagate ST340823A drive which appears to have been pulled from a External HDD/PCMCIA enclosure.
    It reads "SCPH-20401 on it's sticker but it has a blank "DNAS TAG" sector.

    @TriMesh
    It works perfectly on any PS2 for OSD 1.00 boot purposes but PSBBN has problems with it (PSBBN need the DNAS tag to function properly due to obvious DRM management reasons) so if you only tried PSBBN that could be why you were not able to make it work. The old OSD (the one which looks like the original ROM browser) doesn't enforce full checks. Games will show greyed out "install" option if the HDD is not formatted with APA. But I believe that if no HDD is present, nothing is actually shown on the screen.

    I tried a bunch of disks, including the old "HDD Utility Disc V1.0" that came with the early Japanese units, and couldn't get any of them to work. In the end, I just stuck one of the expansion bay drives into the case, which worked with no problems. I guess it's possible it was just a defective drive, but it worked OK with HD loader or when connected to a PC, so would have to be a very strange and specific defect.

    Perhaps it was so old that the specifications for the HDD firmware weren't complete yet so it doesn't support the SCE specific commands. Were those HDDs from 2001?
