People move from Netware to AD - it was much of the same. It was just integrated much better, as it was a native part of the OS.

Moving from User/Server manager on NT 4 to AD or Netware was amazing imo. I got into IT just just as 2K was released, so I had to deal with NT4 but also AD (and migrations from NT 4.0 to 2k/AD). I am now out of IT, (only 6 months so far) - I am interested to see how long it will take until I am out of the loop.

Oh sure I'm with all of you when I say that smaller (128gb->256gb) SSDs are priced well and offer incredible speed benefits to any machine. I'd imagine my old AMD Turion X2 would probably fly with one. Problem is I make just enough money to cover my expenses for a month and not a whole lot more. To afford a SSD would someone throws their old one at me or I find an amazing deal on a hybrid drive.

The average use of my PC. The sad part that Chrome eats a LOT of the memory.
NOTE: The taskbar usually doesn't appear. It's hidden and i use ObjectDock... The only problem that LightShot didn't want to work... :(

So what fixed windows update? ANOTHER CLEAN INSTALL. I figure what fucked it up this time was a half configured firewall when MSE was dragging it ass installing. So I'm running update now NO PROBLEMS I downloaded MSE and put it on my external on the computer I'm on now and hopefully this time Windows behaves it self.

Otherwise I'll be waiting for Bill Gates at Red Robin.

I do not follow that logic well. The way I understand it this is like saying that a desk space is wasted unless it is cluttered with stuff. You need some free space to move things around.
When your background system uses most of your available ram that does not leave much for other applications like games or music production software, which can be very ram hungry.

Btw Why does Chrome have so many Ram using processes? I use firefox and it only has one that I can see.

    Thats not how precaching works.

it fills your ram with stuff it thinks you will use, if you need it for something else - it can immediately use that ram without any penalty. So yes, unused ram is wasted ram.

Makes sense, but there is cached and actually in use.
Correct me if im wrong but when I look at windows resource monitor/memory. There is a percentage of ram listed as Cached but then there is the actual 'In use' percentage. This I assume is hard locked by whatever is using it and is not available to other programs.

OP here has almost double such "in use" ram when running "nothing" than I do. So one would assume that a system cleanup might be in order. Or at least it might be time to assess what is actually happening with your ram.

Also, I used to run a Voice Sampler that would gobble up 4 gb of ram easily. If you need to empty all your cached ram to load this, and try to multitask at the same time you might find that things do not run as smoothly, Hence you would have benefited having actual free ram.

Well yes, if you dont have enough ram for what you need to use all at the same time - then of course you need more ram or to free some up.

The point of "unused ram is wasted ram" is people who want lots and lots of free ram - which is completely pointless.

His machine running "nothing" couldnt have been further from the truth though - do not trust what someone who knows nothing about computers, says about their computer.

But your last point makes no sense - Windows caching will use ALL OF IT. Look at some of the screen shots in this thread - 22GB cached. There is no time where ram being completely free is better than cached.
