Yeah, I've only buy their games and whatnot. It's not like I, as a consumer, should have any say in how I want them to release their product.

I'm not asking them for the world. I'm asking them to release their video game on a video game system. How dare I make such absurd demands!

You're either lying, intentionally exaggerating, or are totally clueless on the issue.

    1. NONE of those are remakes. Besides the SNES version, they're all ports or are being emulated.

    2. PS2, PS3, and DS do not count. FFVI isn't released on any of those, and you'd need the PS1 and GBA version respectively to play on those systems (or buy a PSN copy for PS3).

    3. Wii, Wii U, PSP only play emulated versions of the SNES or PS1 version. Those do not count.

    4. The GBA and PS1 versions were ports, not remakes. It's the same damn game based off the same damn code. The GBA version has a watered down color palette, inferior sound quality, inferior and censored localization, and a small amount of optional bonus content towards the end of the game. The PS1 version was pretty much the same as the SNES from what I remember, but with horrendous load times.

    5. Going by US release dates, the Original SNES version was released in 1994, the PS1 port was released in 1999, and the GBA port was released in 2007. It's almost 2014 now.

So in truth, the only versions that exist are SNES, PS1, and GBA. None of those are remakes. None of those have any relevance to this issue.

I see what you tried to do there. Nice try though.

A tablet is not a dedicated gaming system. The Nvidia Shield is a step above a smart phone or tablet, but still not a truly viable option unless you really love phone games but don't want to use the touch screen. Plus, there is no guarantee the game would even be optimized for it anyway.

This remake, as of this post, has not been confirmed to be released on anything except iOS and android devices.

Nope. You can legally/officially play one of the versions of the game on all the videogame systems I listed. That is not disputable. You can "count" or "not count" whatever versions you want, but that doesn't change the facts. You are able to play the game on hardware from every videogame generation since its release, including the current, and unfortunately, it's not up to you to decide what systems get or don't get a particular version. If you don't want to play the upcoming release simply because you don't like the platform it will be released on, well, you currently have nine other options.

These still aren't your only options, but given how badly you seem to want to play the game, if this is how you really feel, please refer back to:

On a semi-related note, how does everyone feel about exclusives in regards to the industry? Sure, at worst, it's just a money grab, but at best, when the third party really works with the hardware, they can separate themselves and elevate the console...

Since its Square your talking about, I think something should be stated on how backwards and strange that company has been lately. I was going to make a whole thread "The Case Against Square" but never did.

    1. In the recent behind the scenes video on Final Fantasy 13 Lightning Returns, they talked about what a popular character Lightning was. I liked FF 13 and I wouldn't consider that character popular at all. Even in Japan. The developers also talked about how they were so interested in the story of Lighting and Snow. Which is strange because almost nobody else is.
    2. They refuse to release games which fans consistently ask for and want
    3. They've decided that instead of making more high quality console games and decrease their development time, they will create cheap mobile games.
    4. They never localized Final Fantisy Type 2 for psp.
    5. The new Kingdom Hearts 3 trailer uses assets from Kingdom Hearts 2 and looks like a launch PS3 game. The game is slated for PS4.

I used to really like Square. But the last few years, after the release of FF 13, has been a long strange ride. I did like Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep and Dream Drop Distance though.

Good lord... really? We're discussing the release of a remake. It doesn't matter how many different platforms the original was ported on, or on how many systems I can play it on. That makes no difference and has no bearing on the remake.

    This:

Is not the same as this:

FFIV had the same base story, but everything else was made from the ground up based on the original. You know, like a remake? The combat was updated and required much more strategy than both the original easy and hard type versions. In this version you actually needed to use protect, shell, despell, haste, slow, etc to stand a chance against the bosses. It added voiced cutscenes, it added the ability to give the permanent characters the abilities of the characters that leave throughout the course of the story (giving Yang's "focus" ability to Kain, for example). It also added a bit of backstory for why Cecil's older brother abandoned him as a baby and how the King found him and decided to raise him as his own. It also added minor things like a little thought bubble over each characters head while paused that showed what they were thinking/feeling at that point in the story, and even gave an optional "auto battle" ability to make grinding less tedious.

It wasn't perfect though. The way everyone was proportioned looked odd, they took out the ability for certain characters to use certain weapons (Cecil can't use bows in the remake, making a certain cave a bit more difficult to progress through), and admittedly, the story hasn't aged very well and the voiced cutscenes really show this during some of the more melodramatic cutscenes.

That is what I wanted done for V and VI. Squeenix isn't giving V and VI the same treatment, and it upsets me that they're cheaping out on the remake of what is arguably two of their best games by using their crappy looking RPG Maker engine again. It being exclusive for smart phones is only part of the problem. I already addressed this numerous times before.

This doesn't mean that they won't eventually give V and VI the same treatment, but I don't see them hurrying to address this anytime soon.

EDIT: If that was too much for you to read, look at this picture:

Oh boy, passive aggressive name calling!

I'm a fanboy? Of what exactly? I don't recall saying Squeenix had to release it only on the 3DS, or that they only had to release it on next gen consoles. I'm actually pretty open minded about how they'd release it, just as long as it's on an actual dedicated gaming device, they put a bit of effort into it, and they at least attempt to do the original justice.

I'm an elitist? Probably. Nothing wrong with a little elitism, or am I supposed to pretend to enjoy everything and not question the moves and motives of the companies I purchase products from?

Depends. Back then each console had it's own list of pros and cons. Now, both consoles (360/PS3 and One/PS4) are pretty much the same so I see no reason not to release them on both.

Is the third party receiving financial backing from the console manufacturer? Then I see nothing wrong with it being exclusive. (Bayonetta 2 for example)

What we know from the Kotaku article is that you won't have to spend a lot of time grinding, and the graphics will be sharpened, but still 2D, like FFV. Aside from that, we can probably assume the new espers, spells, dungeons, etc, from the GBA game will be included, as it was for FFV. Either way, that's not exactly what happened with the 3D remake of 4 for the DS. It's funny that you bring up 4 though, since the sequel to FF4 was originally mobile only.

You keep writing off iOS and android as inferior because you don't like "phone games" (if we're judging systems by their worst games, then all of gaming sucks) or you don't like the touch screen (which you don't need to use - especially on android). These reasons have nothing to do with the platforms themselves. You say these platforms are only available on phones. That's simply not true. There are even several "dedicated gaming devices" that run android. You can hook them up to your TV and they have controllers and everything! You're fixated on the idea of an "actual dedicated gaming device", yet you'd have to go back to N64's generation of gaming to get that from consoles. Everything that plays games today is also basically a computer trying to sell you everything from games to music to movies and anything in between. You don't have to (pretend to) enjoy iOS or android, but when your reasons for not enjoying them are based on falsehoods and things that also occur in "actual dedicated gaming devices", you might need to state different reasons.

To their credit, as much as I hated FFXIII, I did feel that XIII-2 was a step in the right direction. From what I can tell about Lighting Returns, it appears to be another step in the right direction. Don't know why they think we actually care about Lighting though.

What's even more aggravating about the whole Type-0 situation is that it has been suggested that the localization was basically finished, or at the very least near finished. One would think they decided not to release it on PSP because it was a dying system, and I can understand that. But what's stopping them from releasing it on PSN for the VITA? I know the VITA doesn't have as many units sold, but something has to be a system seller. Crisis Core was one of the only reasons to own a PSP back in the day, so who's to say the same wouldn't happen with Type-0?

What about the PS3? Didn't Sony say they made it easy to port PSP games to the PS3 for situations just like this? The PS3 has a high user base, so no need to worry about that. Just title it "Type-0 HD" and there you go. They have so many different options they could take with it but I guess they'd rather do nothing instead.

Which might explain why the story was on par with bad fan fiction, going back to my original point of a lack of effort being put into cheap cash-ins. Need I remind you of this microtransaction filled gem?

Imagine playing that with a controller. Awesome!

The worst modern phone game is way, way, way worse than the worst modern handheld or console game. But that's because it's a completely different market, one based on a cheap price and a quick bit of fun to kill time. I have no idea why you seem to think otherwise.

My PS3 can play movies, music, internet, etc like all the other glorified multimedia devices today. But at the end of the day, the PS3 is a game console. People bought it to play games, everything else is an after thought, a bonus feature in a sense. If thinking like this is so backwards and stuck in the past, why did the Xbox One get so much hate during the initial reveal for talking about TV, sports, movies, and social media non-stop? Because at the end of the day, people are going to buy the Xbox One not because you can use twitter while watching a basketball game, but because it's a game console. And don't say it was just a select few, there's a reason Microsoft did a 180 and completely revamped their marketing strategy.

I do agree with you though that consoles are becoming more and more like restrictive computers. I don't like it, but I think I've already made that abundantly clear in the past.
