Oh but of course! Shinobi's departure from the Sega Dreamcast was the only reason I even bought a Sony PlayStation 2!

Play it and find out. There is not really any point speculating right now if at all, especially with so little information.

If nothing else was found via automated search a manual search is probably a waste of time, but maybe try a different app and leave it running before you go to bed? :p

101 reasons as to why that could be the case but it is probably a form of copy protection. Did you change CDE4 436A to 0900 0900 or 1032 0D8B to 0800 0D8B etc in the 1st_read.bin first?

How much of the game musics and sounds are present in this Dreamcast build compared to the Xbox version?

In the brief E3 2001 trailer you could already notice a music track that reappeared in the Xbox version and also some small cutscenes, but you already said there are no cutscenes in this build unfortunately. :/

If this build is dated July 2001 then it's probably among the latest work it was done for the Dreamcast version of ToeJam & Earl III. It would be good to ask Greg Johnson how far development went beyond this build and until the platform switch was made.

That Nintendo 64 version is actually unrelated to ToeJam & Earl III. It was a previous attempt of a ToeJam & Earl game which was going to be published by GT Interactive and lacked any involvement from Sega. The game was cancelled in early 1999 because of GT Interactive's lack of faith in both the series and the platform.

ToeJam & Earl III for Dreamcast and Xbox is a later and different game altogether, with development duties assumed by Visual Concepts which was part of Sega back then. Therefore, this game had Sega involved since the beginning like the ToeJam & Earl games on the Mega Drive and unlike that discarded GT Interactive game for the Nintendo 64.

Well if YouTube is anything to go by, the Xbox version is far smoother. The DC version that shows early footage looks more like Ooga Booga

    Well quoting, my quote from a quote (do you still follow, haha);

"The Dreamcast Version was cool - in fact it was very like the Original TJ&E
with the stacked levels, and withOUT all of the gates and keys and bosses
and mini-games and hub structure that Visual Concepts (Sega) made us put
into the Xbox version of the game. We had also built a 2 or 3 player
multi-player mode so that people on different dreamcasts could play
together. We had that working quite well and it was lots of fun, but we
scrapped it when we ported to the Xbox because we didn't have enough time to
    re-implement it. sigh."

Besides the obvious this is mainly different between the two versions.

Interesting you say that. It seems that the xbox version of TJ&E 3 was developed in part by Visual Concepts - a sega studio. This studio is also credited in the development of Ooga Booga and Floigian Bros for DC.

Thank you for the updated pictures. Would be great to hear on how playable you think the game is?

Also, you haven't got Shenmue 3 on there by any chance? :p

I wouldn't even be surprised if it turns out that TJ&E3 shared the same engine as either Ooga Booga or Floigan Brothers - these games do look remarkably similar, and since they all came from Visual Concepts there's a possibility that at least some assets were sourced for more than just the one project.

By the way, does anyone know if Visual Concepts has ever considered a sequel to Floigan Brothers? I found it odd they put the original game out with that "Episode 1" subtitle yet never started work on a follow-up (to my knowledge, at least)... I'm guessing such a thing definitely wasn't intended for the Dreamcast, especially considering how late in the system's life the first appeared!

They all look rather similar don't they, just to clarify - is this the same game that came out on Xbox story-wise?

If so, is there a way to rip the FMV story elements from the Xbox version to the DC version (obviously once the talented folk get it working on a retail unit) ?

I know its a forward thinking question but is it possible?
