Walked into the local Target dept store this evening to pick up a few things. As I strolled through the video game section, I couldn't believe what I was seeing...sitting inside the display case in the Xbox section were 4 brand new, sealed original Xbox systems for sale. Even odder, these were the older sets that came with JSRF and Sega GT packed in (circa 2002 I believe). I asked the employee how much they cost and he replied $149.99. He said they just got them in a shipment and had no idea how or why...possibly someone at Target HQ found some of these units unsold in a warehouse? I would have bought one had the price been $129 or $99...perhaps they'll clearance them soon (I hope). If you're shopping at your local Target in the next few days, check out the gaming aisle and let me know if your store also got some of these ancient machines in recently.
Argos in the UK were selling new Xboxs with 5 games for £50 last summer..sold the doubles I got in that on ebay and the Xbox ended costing me a tenner :icon_bigg
I suppose. But I'd venture that this is just a one-off in that the store discovered old stock somewhere and decided to offer these units in the hopes of attracting someone looking for a sealed unit. I'll keep my eye on these...if they do clearance them I'll snatch one up.
I walked past used Xboxes today for $60 apiece. I have two, which is probably one too many, but yet I want another
I have two dissasembled ones here. For some reason, they suddenly won't power on. Knee deep in Xbox parts (and dust/bugs, since they stored it in a shed). I might just have to blow 60$ on one or something.
On the topic of X-Box's, i have just given away most of my remaining jenga tower to a local schools design centre, at last count it was 72 standard black cases!
I remember finding a few sealed Japanese Controller S's at a local Game Crazy two or three years back. They were ridiculously cheap too, couldn't of been more than $20 per. Needless to say, I picked one up.
They werent totally truely Japanese, Microsoft put out a Limited Edition release of their controller here, so it was meant for the US market is what Im getting at (I bought mine in Best Buy for instance)
i currently have 2 xbox's, well 1 at the moment as the other one is a broken modded xbox which is getting fixed but thats enough for me, been tempted to get a few other GC's but never anymore xbox's, I hardly see many new xbox's arround, its mostly pre-owned/used.
Actually, I believe they were indeed the actual Japanese controller. The cable was shorter, the abxy buttons were slightly different than the standard US Controller S and the triggers had slightly less travel as well. All they did was repackage them in US-friendly packaging. I think I still have mine kicking around somewhere. I'll try to find it and do a side-by-side comparison.
Well yeah, but its not that the store magically got some Japanese stock, thats what I was getting at They were meant for the US marketplace none the less
I got prototype controllers from a Gamestop. They had the japanese ones too, including a grey one. I only had 20$ on me at the time though, so I got a Dakota...and they were gone the next day (though I doubt people bought them).
The Dakotas are awesome. I have 2 of them as well, though only 1 seems to work properly on my Xbox system. The other cuts out every now and then on my Vers 1.0 Xbox (but works fine in my Halo Special Edition console).
I saw a sealed SNES football game at a Walmart in West Virginia for 30$ back in 2003. It was really weird.
That's pretty cool, but really only good to collectors, and even then the price is a bit high. I wouldn't but one of them to use - those Thomson drives were shockingly poor. It won't last.
