I figure that both the adapter and clone consoles used in Tototek's product shots are made by Game Joy. Perhaps the reason there's no A/V cable used in those pictures is due to some kind of exclusive, non-SNES standard compatibility where A/V is being fed through unused pins. It's possible that all of these cheap system to system adapters will work on a Game Joy SNES clone without the cable. Edit: http://wave.ap.teacup.com/pachi/503.html This second review on the site that showshot linked suggests this theory might be correct
The above review and another review on the site (http://wave.ap.teacup.com/pachi/503.html) help to confirm this theory that there is in fact special compatibility between Game Joy clones and adapters.
The Retro-Bit and AD Adapter are the same thing, different branded labels. Will require A/V cable to work on original hardware, but not on some clones. Some of the pins on a SNES cart slot are not used I guess they take advantage of this on the clones and route A/V through them. Compatible with XG2Turbo 1G, and Flash2Advance confirmed. Non Compatible with SuperCard SD I'm planning on getting one of these soon, my hopes is to identify the A/V pins on the cart and see about a possible rewiring to route these to the SNES A/V out and eliminate the separate A/V cable. Obviously this will not go through the SNES video encoder or processor so at best it will be composite. Edit: I was told today by someone that has this and the XG2Turbo tried Goomba Colour, SMS, and NES emulators on thier flash cart with sucsess.
I found a video on youtube for this adapter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ao-GVdbLKdQ shame it doesn't have rgb I would buy this in a instant if so
^Thanks for sharing the video. Yes the gadget is very tempting! Maybe there might be a way to mod it for better video signal? Although I expect what we'll find inside is a small board with a glob top and absolutely nothing to be done on it Also, in this specific case, there is a possibility that the fact its composite might help smooth out scaling artifacts
You're welcome I might buy this in the next couple of weeks I will post screenshots and take photos of the insides when I have it.
Oh yeah those pictures from tototek, I had forgot about them. With a bit of luck one of those chips is a video encoder we could grab RGB from.
One of the chips by the AV jack might be an encoder if you're lucky. The video ssj4jaxmazon linked was good in helping to explain that it may infact be a complete GBA hardware clone and not crappy emulation. It's too bad the NES and Genesis type of cartridges aren't the same quality.
So I just ordered the adapter from Tototek 2 min ago, I also bought the GBA flash cart along with it to test this thing properly I will make a written review of it when I receive it. Will also try to see if there is a way to mod it and will post detailed pictures of all the chips
I see on Facebook today they have admitted it does in fact need separate A/V cables to use with an original SNES console.
I knew that the moment I saw pictures of the PCB. It's a lot like the Sega one for SNES. That one needs a separate A/V cable to put the audio/video out.
For those who may have been following this thread, I made a follow up with my experience with the adapter here: http://www.assemblergames.com/forum...BA-SNES-AD-adapter-A-look-inside-short-review
