Alright, im in the planning stages of my trip to Japan now. Basically, where should i fly into for best access to all of the gaming hotspots? Im hoping to make it a 2 week trip, though it may only be a week and a half or so. Im trying to figure out where to land though, as that will be a good start. Borman
Well you may as well fly in to Narita (Tokyo Int' Airport) if you really want game shopping since Tokyo is the main place followed by Osaka I guess. saying that though, great gaming spots can be found all over Japan. Yakumo
Go to wherever you want to do the most shopping last. You don't want to carry all your gear around for two weeks. Maybe Fly into osaka, kansai and do like kyoto, Kobe, nara, Den Den. Maybe go south to do bits of hiroshima, shikoku or places like miyajima. Finally go east to hit tokyo and fly out of narita.
Yip, Kansai is really convenient. From there you can take a direct express train to Osaka or Kyoto, it only takes about 50 minutes. Kyoto is the place to be for all your tourism/cultural needs. Osaka is better than Tokyo for game shopping IMO.
You might also want to check out places like Nagoya. The airport is a lot easier to navigate and you're almost in the middle of Osaka and Tokyo. I live in southern Japan and using Tokyo as your exit point is a nightmare. You have to take a 7 AM flight, fly into the domestic airport, take a bus right to the international airport, then wait for about 6 hours since all of the international flights don't leave until the evening. I flew to the US about 3 weeks ago via Nagoya. My layover was about 1 hour and all I had to do was change gates. These are just some of the little things that you don't realize until you've already bought your ticket. If you're going to use the Shinkansen then Osaka or Tokyo will probably be fine, but if you have any connecting flights in Japan, be warned...
