I recently purchased a 320GB HDD for my wimpy 40GB PS3. Following official guidelines I replaced the HDD and restored the image of the previous through the relevant backup utility, and everything is thankfully intact - or so I thought. Everything except for the trophies.. Although my previous achievements are registered online for comparison purposes, I get a "There are no trophies" message when selecting the relevant option from the XMB. I have no trophies on my console despite having beat the crap out of quite a few games. Another reason why my money is on Microsoft and I can still forgive the odd RROD every now on then. When will Sony learn how to make bug-free software for fucks sake. And on this note, I m off to send them an e-mail (only to be treated to a standard reply probably and no solution to my problem)
No offence, but who gets a hard E-penis from thropies? I mean, what is the purpose of it anyway. It is for small kids, who can state to their schoolfriends they are the best. Just enjoy your HD, although I don't even understand why you would replace it in the first place? Not such great stuff on there, owning one myself, 40 gb ould have suited just fine in my opinion. Why did you upgrade? Grtz
i use linux on my ps3 and a bigger hdd would be nice. i usually delete demos after i beat them, trailer after i saw them etc. so if i was only gaming, 40gb would be enough.
Ah, ok, didn't know that was possible. But don't you have a pc to run Linux on? What are the benefits? Grtz
Linux is ass on the ps3 mainly due to the 256MB RAM limitation and 10GB of either OS partition (retarded) @Unorthodox: I tried what you suggested to no avail unfortunately. It's not about willy waving. I could care less about them actually but it is the principle of the matter. i.e I shouldn't be punished for something that I did not get fair warning for nor did it stem from my omission or neglect. I followed official guidelines. Letting SONY get away with yet another software deficiency would just add to their arrogance and I m a paying customer - I want to get every last bit for what I own, especially considering my 12+ titles downloaded from the PSN. Shrugging it off would just be like bending over and allowing them to fuck us over a tad bit more and I m not going to have it. PS: There is a warning with regard to *some* Copyrighted material when using the backup utility, but considering the nature of Trophies there is no risk of copyright infringement, it's just them having a bad policy/application bug and they should be held accountable.
it's not just the trophies. Their PS3 system software is full of bugs, be it codecs, inability to display certain folders over the network, and now this. I m getting tired of having everything half-assed - like their biggest half-ass achievement, Home.
To anyone saying trophies/achievements are stupid and don't matter, hey, might as well not even attempt to complete a game ever at all. Who cares right?
That's a poor analogy. Trophies aren't playable. Unless you're saying you don't care about how a game plays and you're only playing to see the ending. "To anyone saying trophies/achievements are stupid and don't matter, hey, fuck your shit, I like them." I find this much more convincing.
too bad the trophies aren't saved to your gamer profile. i can get my gamer profile and all my achievements on literally any 360 if i'm connected to Lve. i'm surprised you can't do that on PS3.
trophies add extra goals to games. EG complete a race within 37 seconds in GTI club, or cross the line with the reverse gear while coming first etc. It's not the showing off portion, it's the personal gratification that they provide. I m not saying I m a completist, but some are a good challenge.
Barcode, Thanks for mentioning the ps3 is buggy, I haded heard of that. I had been thinking about specially ordering a ps3 with linux on the ps3 console. I wasn't sure what it'd be like and I was looking for some more input on that. How come if a person has linux you only get 256 of space? It doesn't make sense.
The PS3 is only allows access to the GDDR3 memory, no the XDR (hypervisor) - hence only 256 MB total and no 3d acceleration etc. Also, the PS3 only allows 10GB to be devoted to any given OS of the two possible. The install other OS option gives u an option to allot 10GB to PS3 or to Linux, no matter how much HDD you ve got in there - a huge setback if you re considering using the PS3 as a PC alternative.
30 seconds searching on Google suggests that you need to reinstall the games for which you've earned trophies (and maybe play a level of each), then sync your trophies and they should return under the XMB. Sony is working on a fix for this. http://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/general-ps3-discussion/2709-synching-trophies-new-ps3-2.html#post64569 I suspect that now you're so over the PS3, you'll put it on eBay, get back to your 360, and we can all get on with our lives....?
yeah, sony did everything to make it suck as much as possible. still, i use it as a surf station and file server sometimes.
Of course not. I ll give them hell as any paying customer should :020: I already wrote a long complaint and I hope for the best - they were asking for it
