I just re-read your first post and it's cracking me up.

You'd rather have a complete console hardware failure "every now and then" than not have your trophies reload when you swap a HDD??

If you wrote a stinging email to Sony about trophies, I'd love to see your emails to Microsoft...!!!

It's still bullshit. Isn't that akin to losing your data? Having to replay shit would be garbage. Seriously, the 360 dying sucks but so does losing your shit because you took advantage of the upgradable hard drive feature of the PS3. Either way you cut it, it sucks. Barcode is this common or did you just get unlucky?

An RROD is a random event that happens rarely, I don't have to come accross its short-commings every single time i boot my console - unlike buggy software mind you, where you constantly have to resort to Voodoo magic, forums and guessing just to enjoy the damn thing.

With regard to the odd RROD every now and then, as a lawyer i feel comfort in 3 year warranties, I don't know about you.

this effectively means that even if it does break down, I still get remedied for what is clearly not my fault.

In the real world things arent perfect and do go wrong, it's just a matter of who bears the cost of restitution - and I certainly won't be "it".

no idea buddy, all i know is that Sony should try to compete with offering a better product, not a cheap rip-off of another's Achievement system:p

Plus, MS has a better controller and more games:p don't start me on BC ><

and then there's the infamous PS3 media center features (or lack thereof:p)

"I recommend leaving your system on in stand by mode with the red light on for a period of 24 hours to see if the trophies you have accumulated show up again. If not, waiting for the next system software update may be the only resolution."

Well after that stupid reply to your question, I'd be equally as stupid and ask them...

A: What happens if you turn the console off at 23hrs and 59sec's, do the trophies disappear again?

    or

B: Do I need to leave my PS3 on 24/7 until the next update appears?

Considering the title of this thread, I found this. The fact that it relates to the subject makes it even better. Perhaps you should send one to Sony?

Wow, they called you Arsehole?

Oh no! Who's stealing trophies from Sony?

Why is it that people choose to bitch about a problem on an Internet forum BEFORE asking the manufacturer for help? In this case I find it quite amusing, and it isn't really going to hurt Sony - what Barc0de says is true! However, I saw someone go off on one on a forum for local (make that the entire county) musicians that he had a guitar amplifier fixed at a local shop (my friend's shop) and that when he got it home, it didn't work. He chose to badmouth the shop before even asking them to rectify the situation, something which they didn't take kindly to - in fact they were considering what their legal position was. Who gets something repaired and doesn't check it in store? Turns out he dropped it down his stairs, too - something he omitted from his rant and in all likeliness could have caused damage! On top of that, the repair guy is actually a chap who hires a room out the back and has nothing to do with the rest of the shop - so his badmouthing the entire shop was not justified.

    So are you:

    (a) complaining about Trophies as a whole; or
    (b) simply that they haven't resynced with your console?

If it's (a), then, together with the rest of your complaints, you'd be best selling your buggy, cheap, shithouse PS3 and moving on. If it's (b), then there's been posts linking to a work-around (unsatisfactory yes, but not hugely time or effort consuming either and perhaps preferable to waiting for a firmware update) so either do that, or quit complaining.

I'm not sure what you want out of this thread? Just venting? Bringing it to everyone else's attention? It's clearly not focused on achieving a solution...

    Dave.

Oh I m sorry, did I hurt your feelings?

I think it's good to warn people because others might also care to upgrade their PS3's HDD.

Additionally, there's nothing wrong with Trophies if done correctly - having them and then losing them as part of your game experience/progress is what puts me off.

Advising me to sell the PS3 means that I have to admit I was an idiot for buying one in the first place and saying that Sony does no wrong with offering minimal customer care or any workable solutions. It's like defending their inadequacies. Is that what you like doing in your spare time? =)

Thanks Dad, but I want my PS3 to be the best it can be, you can compromise if you like.

Perhaps you'd like to explain why you think it's not perfectly legitimate to complain about having to go through a convoluted process in order to restore a feature that should already be present? And where better than an internet forum?

No feelings hurt. Well, maybe a couple.

Perhaps it's just me, but this place often feels like it's full of people that love to whinge, but aren't actually interested in solutions. It's full of negatives, because people with good news stories don't post. Here's a thing. I upgraded my HDD and everything worked fine afterwards, including trophies. Now you already know that me saying that is not enough to counter the impression of the PS3 that you've presented. Bad news sticks, and good news is forgotten.

Your one-man crusade to make Sony (and the wider community) aware of your rights and their deficiencies is enviable, but getting old. Perhaps if you used this talent to fix some real social problems, you could make the world a better place.

Me? I happen to love my PS3. I find the games that I own to be good, although I don't play them as much as I should. I like the media server functions, showing off videos and photos of my kids on the TV when the family comes around. I like the quality of movies on Blu-Ray. I quite like Home, but it's not the be-all-and-end-all, and it's not everything that it could be. I've got uBuntu installed and although it's no replacement for a PC yet, it runs okay and is fun to muck around on as my first Linux experience.

But no one cares about that.

    Dave.

And I'm not justifying this. It is unsatisfactory to have to follow this process. But he's been told by Sony that they're working of a firmware update to fix it, what more do you want? For it not to happen in the first place? That would of been nice, but it's too late. Now we're onto understanding what needs to be done to fix it.
