The reason I made my wife queue up for me on release day. :)

They've definitely got some support this time. Another Tengai Makyou game is slated for the 360 which is pretty big. That series sells boatloads in Japan... even the cheesy remakes.

Or more. The PS2 launch sucked ass, and most of the follow-up games did too! I didn't buy one until VF4 was announced.

  3. The coolest thing about the Xbox3 (what happened to 2?) so far is Jeff Minter's lightsynth that comes built in. I'm really excited to see what he's done (even though I'm unbvelievably disappointed that Unity got cancelled). That's enough to make me consider shiplifting a system, but not buying one. And other than that, there's not much that looks cool. Even the backwards compatibility sounds like it won't be any good form what I understand. I would actually like to play some Xbox games like Outrun 2 or Spikeout, but it sounds like only lame ass shit like Halo and Tom Clancy games will actually work.

i must admit im not excited about the launch, though this system does intrigue me and they seem to be getting some good games they havent got, but like the first xbox im gonna wait till later, launch theres more games id want to get then there were on xbox, but still it seems like this one will have a better chance at succeded then its predecessor, but yeah im gonna get a revo when it comes out, the classic games are already a seling point for me. Now if only theyd release a lightsaber game on it.

Kinda hard to get excited about a repeat of the past 5 years, just with better graphics.

The backwards compatability is absolutely shocking. Only the most popular games will be emulated (the shite in GAME), plus you need the HDD. Either it's fully backwards compatable, or it's not. Don't bother offering a half-way-trying-to-match-Sony solution.

The Media Centre aspects still aren't as good as the current XBMC. And if you do buy the premium package, you still have to pay $20 for the recharge kit, or that remote pad's gonna be loving the Duracells.

Much as I don't fancy bouncing around the living-room waving my remote around like a Chimpanzee on speed, I am interested in the Revolution. Simply because it really has the potential to be different, and maybe even get me excited.

Revo = Potentialy a whole new crazy and interesting gaming experience.

PS3/X360 = MGS, GT, GTA, Fifa, etc, zzzz. Again. Which is fine I suppose, but not exactly inspiring.

I intend to get the XBox360 at launch for Kameo alone. I've been following that game sense it was first announced for Gamecube, and im not going to be passing it up after all these years of waiting.

I'm not really excited for a launch full of xbox leftovers either.

I've actually never bought a console the day it came out. I fully plan on making the Revolution the first. I'll probably get a 360 later once the price drops.

Whoa, hold it there. Do you mean XBOX 360 backwards compatibility will be some kind of "almost as good as" emulation?

The 360 uses a PowerPC processor, the old Xbox used an Intel x86 cpu. Microsoft has confirmed that backwards comp. will be done in emulation and will require the harddrive to accomplish it.

It's actually one of the reasons Microsoft bought Connectix, they had experience emulating the x86 platform on the MacOS (PPC at the time).

yeah MS copped out and said that backwards compatibility will work with a number of best selling games...which could easily be just Halo and Halo 2. They'll have to do it on a game by game basis. So you'll need the patches they'll release or whatever and HDD to play xbox games, which supposedly used the HDD but you couldn't tell if you saw the lame popup in Halo 2's cutscenes and heard the disk drive working overtime to try to load them.

    :D

The revolution is the only system i'll pick at launch, or near launch. I need to pick a ps3 for Guns of the Patriots, Gradius 6, and Maybe killzone 2. Will cost me an arm only for three games though.. :(

i wouldn't be thinking about ps3 if it wasn't of this, that's sad.

and backward compatibility with best sellers means no backward compatibility for shenmue 2, jet set radio future and panzer dragoon orta, if there's no miracle.

damn.............. I have for the past 2 months been seriously motivated to get the 360 around launch. I don't know why but a couple of days ago I just lost interest. I just don't see what they are aiming to do with this system other than continue what they've already started with the XBOX - offering little else. if the slant was, we are going to accomodate the gamers of previous generations, then I'd be all for it. I want a system that takes us into account again. like has been mentioned, the audience in question is now of the 'I got 50cent's new album' variety. someone should do a pilediver on the industry.

whilst I'm less than inspired, much less amused by the remote control (how horrid is that games controller?..), the Revolution may well be the way to go in my case with regards to purchase around launch day. but what's the projected release date for this thing? probably end up coming out 2007 knowing our luck.

I don't see the point to getting any console at release. It's more to just say "I have this".

lol someone deleted my first post in this thread :smt043

You get a system when it comes out because it has new, great games that aren't offered on the old consoles....That, and so you can brag to your friends.:p

yeah. Some people actually skipped classes last year when they got Halo 2 at midnight and played it through the next day...and bragged about it. I was like wow, I'm getting it whenever I get up to the damn store. Camping out in front of a store for a videogame is fucking stupid.

I have a 360 pre-ordered, but I sorta don't know why, at first I was like "cool new perfect dark" but that's it, it really doesnt interest me, its quite sad :( ... equally the PS3 so far has shown me nothing to get me excited about it.

But when I saw the revolution controller video I actually got excited about video gaming, something I haven't felt in a long while. I remember how I felt the first time I played Nes at my friends house or the day I got my MasterSystem. I remember playing Mario64 in Japanese, having no idea what was going on but being so amazed and excited... the current generation has been ok, but I play less and less these days and it depresses me. I hope that Revolution could be the catalyst that gets me back into gaming, I plan to get one on Japanese launch, cos you know europe wont see the bloody thing till 2007 ._.

I can't say I am that excited for the 360 or any of the other platform launches. I love the RR series, so that title will be a definite for me.

I think this time I will hold off until the 360 has atleast 5 solid games that will keep me entertained.

  20. It has been said of the computer industry that Microsoft's biggest competition is older versions of its own software. The reasoning being that as time goes on, each new version is more of a minor, incremental improvement over the previous. This seems to be applying to the videogame industry currently. Everything being shown so far about the X360/PS3 is little more than the stuff we've been playing for the last good long while with "madder grapizznaphics yo!" Thus it's getting harder and harder for those of us who've been around the block a few times to care anymore.
