Hi there, bought a nice Sharp twin famicom AN-500R. Like to a add the hdmi mod for the console. https://www.game-tech.us/product/hi-def-nes/ Not sure about it, i have to choose the top loader option? Anyone add that board on a twin before? Thanks regards Chris
its not hard chris, only thing you may need is ribbons from cpu and ppu to the board to be a custom length since the kits include ribbons only for NES, top loader or AV fami.
It works the same. GameTechUs has a video on his youtube. The only reason its not officially supported is because there was no clean space to put the board in the casing that allowed to have the hdmi port accessible. Make your own method and itll work.
Another question about the Twin. If i like to change the controller ports from the original wired one to a extension cable for plugin an 8bitdo adapter, can i use both at same time ? Original wired controller plus a connected extension cable will not work?
It would be better to use the expansion port for additional controllers. There are adapters you can buy or make to use nes controller plugs with it.
Jackhead just buy the DB15 adapter like Tofu said. and yes you can use both at the same time actually as odd as that sounds.
Ah perfect, you guys have a link where i can buy one? I notice that the d-sub15 plug is deeper as normal .. Last question about the PSU, any suggestion ? I need one because my unit is loose without psu.
DC 7.5V ~ 1500mA center positive. as for the adapter a neogeo extension cable would have a longer plug that should work. I dont really know where to buy pre-made adapter.
The expansion port is not compatible with every game, that's the only downside. http://www.famicomworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=6701.0
tofu, they are on Ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/FC-Cable-Co...152427?hash=item237a9fdcab:g:UxwAAOSwARZXm5xb Jackhead if you don't want to buy this theres a trick to make a db15 longer, i used it to make my sega saturn neo geo pad. http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/snk-neo-geo-diy-db15-controller-plug/
The Hi-Def NES currently doesn't support the Twin Famicom. There's a timing/line delay issue that Kevtris intends to look into in the not-so-distant future to hopefully remedy this. As for a Twin Famicom controller mod. I recommend modifying the hardwired controllers. Not all Famicom games are programmed to poll the controller registers that the DB15 expansion port has access to. And if you intend on playing any NES games, you'll have very little compatibility there, too. Latching onto the hardwired controllers will yield perfect compatibility. Buy a set of NES female extension cables, Cut the male plug end off. Remove the hardwired controllers from the mainboard. (I like to solder in right angle header pins) and crimp the conductors from the NES extension cables so that they can be removed (if necessary). Strip the conductors of the extension cable and buzz them to find the color/pin assignment. Follow my diagram to wire them up. Enjoy seamless compatibility!
i couldn't bring myself to hack of the original controllers on my AN-505 and i've had very few games not work with the db15 port, mostly shitty codemasters games and stuff from US companies like ocean, even though i've been pleasantly surprised with the games they do work with. I use my Seta Wireless commander a lot so its my go to anyway.
Oh yes, I totally understand this. But you don't have to hack up or modify the controllers of the Twin Famicom. You just disconnect them from the mainboard. If you want to use your Twin Famicom controllers, just replace the hardwired cables with NES plug-end cables so that your Twin Famicom OG controllers still work flawlessly. Not only with your Twin Famicom, but with ALL NES systems. You're only replacing the cables of the controllers. You really aren't hacking it up or modifying neither the controllers or the console to the point to where it couldn't easily be reverted back to a 100% stock configuration. This guide is also applicable to the OG Famicom, it's the same procedure. Super Mario USA (SMB2) isn't programmed to poll the DB15 controller registers. I always thought that was absolutely ridiculous. lol
Got my Hi Def NES kit some days ago and finished it today after work on a Famicom AV : Awesome kit im stuned on quality of output.
1. Let me state that I have modded my Original Famicom to accept NES controllers through some heavy case modifications and the disassembly of a four score (tutorial is on this forum and at my blog which you can access through my profile). 2. I have recently received a twin famicom, from @skyway1985 (thank you again), and tore it down to know the inner workings and your TwinFam-NES connectors are a cinch to duplicate as long as one has extra Famicom controlers and don't mind cutting and splicing them apart in order to use NES connector ports. Hence, as you have stated, it's easy to plug-n-play NES controllers and revert them back to original if/when needed. Thus it also saves on the the original controllers being used. Not to mention (even though i'm mentioning it now) the extra NES controller length helps immensely for playing on the couch 10 feet away. 3. The Seta Wireless commander is a BOSS. Cordless. Very well made. And the response time it so close to a true wired controller. I highly recommend this controller.
