Yeah because no one would want to leave america and work illegally in another country. Lies i gave you that link last night on msn! Plus this is a slightly different case. Your talking about a wealthy man who paid for her flights to come over and she was staying with him.
Paulo, I'm not saying some people would like to leave American and work in another country, but illegally? America isn't some third world country, it would be easier to get a job here than going through he hassle of illegally working somewhere.
Not really happens all the time for lots of reasons in loads of countries. People get bored, fancy a working holiday, want to travel, found a lover in another country and want to be with them. I know if i could take a working holiday in Hong Kong or Singapour i would but seeing as its fairly illegal and i want a permanent position i haven't got that desperate yet.
So you're assuming they are foreigners due to their ability to speak the language? Yeah, that's not racist When you come back, ask your girlfriend to point out some chavs. You'll find they're all born here but can't speak proper English to save their lives!! OK... so are they "of other nationalities" or not? Only British citizens can vote. On the other matter, it's called shift work. I know you guys have shift work there, too - go into McDonald's and ask an employee whether they work the entire day! Hmm, people who live in glass houses... those two sentences were grammatically incorrect. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but you are incredibly naive. Talking to someone over a video conference does NOT mean that you know them. You don't know for certain they live there - I've heard of people webcamming with people, going to meet them and they had been given a fake address. Even if they were legit, you could have done something to piss them off, and they ask you to leave. In either of those situations, then what? £310 suddenly is nowhere near enough to live off for two weeks. Motels cost around £50-60 a night, a meal is going to cost you at least £5, then there's transportation and presumably you'd want to see the sights and buy gifts etc. £1000 is bare minimum, really. I stayed in NYC for 2 weeks with a friend. Food etc. was paid for. I took £1000 and came back with $600 (about £300 at the time). Regarding the visa situation, as several of us have already said, even a visa won't guarantee you admittance, so don't think that coming back with one will be any different. Even celebrities with working visas have been denied access to the UK and the US despite having, for example, a big tour! You didn't answer my question before - did you tick any yes boxes where it would count against you on that form? For example, do you have a criminal record? I know someone who is an immigration officer, actually I know several. They work damn hard and are as hated as parking wardens. In the end, they're just doing their job. Of course people don't like it, but that's the way it is. Whilst you should be polite to them (and the people who talk to them for evidence e.g. your girlfriend or your family), it isn't necessarily going to help your case. That said, if you're rude, they are less likely to want to do everything they can to help you. Umm, no. The majority of the immigrants that people complain about aren't Asian. They would be the ones coming in illegally and setting up business without paying taxes - often from places such as Albania, Kosovo and also Poland. Some of these people do come in legitimately, granted - but often they scrounge everything they can out of the benefits system. This isn't fair as we have to have worked for several years to be entitled to these benefits - they just come into the country and get given them. We don't have any problems with genuine immigrants who come in legally and want to earn their keep. A lot of Asians in the UK do exactly that... and a lot of them have been here for several generations now. No offence, but they're just giving their opinion, as requested - and you mentioned getting compensation youself, so don't get shirty with people!... Anyway, sorry you've had to go through this, but I don't think there's a lot you can do. Learn from the experience from next time is all I can say... but don't expect to get in with a visa necessarily.
welcome to the real world my friend, that's how america treats alot of people, specially if you're brown.
Mmm... Immigration... The only country I find to be great to deal with on the immigration side is Canada. Every time i've had to go to the USA/CAN boarder to get a new work permit (for canada) they have always been pretty cool and relax. It's sad that it's the complete oposite when dealing with the US side (and I'm even American). They will talk to you like they have a stick shoved far up their ass then turn around and when on break chit chat with coworkers about a recent sports game). Probably the most scary place to be when dealing with immigration is at the HK/China border. I spent a day in HK with my wife's family (who are all from china) and on the return trip home, we got held for about 30mins-1hour because my passport had a "confirmation of permanent residency" for Canada in it (even though I had a proper multiple entrance visa for china). They didn't give me any trouble but they took for ever since they wanted to study the paper since they've never seen one before. As a side note, I feel bad for any Canadians who loose a passport or get stuck in Beijing. The Canadian embassy is horrible.

When I grow up, I want to be a chav. I wonder if I'll get flagged because of my original vaultback DW-5600... which is superior, IMO.
Just incase anyone wants to know, I do not have a criminal record. I don't have a negative record what so ever. Anyways, I'm done with the rude people commenting in this topic. I'm naive because I know someone, yeah, makes sense. Look, I know for sure that's where she lives, I had even mailed stuff there and she had received it. Anyways, don't expect anymore replies from me, it seems people here just love jumping to conclusions. I mean, it's lovely that people are assuming that I was rude, racist, and had some sort of a criminal record. Who the fuck would attempt to go through immigration like that? That's insanely stupid. I was as polite as a person could be, and multiple people had noted my politeness. My main issues were money and ties to the United States. They were weary of me overstaying my welcome in the country. Next time, I'm going back with 1,500 GBP, a visa, proof of employment, addresses, and several phone numbers. I'm aware a visa wont just get me into the country, but it would sure as hell help.
I think the issue lies in the way you relay information. Specifically, your first post seemed angry and was by general confession bitter and a tad mean. I know how you feel but you'll also have to consider that your readers don't have the emotional attachment you have to the issue, hence why it is important to word things in proper, simple and factual English. I'm not patronizing you or anything, just making sure you don't think people here are a bunch of assholes. With the exception of GaijinPunch, but that just makes him that much cooler to have around.
I think these terrorism thingy caused all this. It shows that the immigration are doing their job wether fair or not is another thing all together. im deeply sadden that you cant meet ur Gf, literally. Hopefully future visits will be smooth.
btw i was high when i came up with the last comment due to the previous one before the just mentioned one, it just sounds so clever and shit.
Welcome to London. I know how you felt there. I'm British myself although from the North, Not London. Anyway, 5 years ago I went back to the UK for a holiday and while there I had to travel from London to Liverpool via the National Express coach. It shocked me when I realized that I was the only white guy in the entire coach station! Most people I was listening to weren't even speaking English. It was a shock I can tell you. For a second I seriously wondered if I was in the right country. Now, I'm not being a racist at all, I have many Asian friends from the Philippines, China, Nepal and Japan, Coloured friends from Garner and Nigerian and European friends from Germany, Switzerland and Russia (would that by Europe though? hmm). What I'm trying to say is that I understand your puzzled feeling that you felt landing in the UK and being surrounded by people who didn't even speak English. Yakumo
If you would of came to Holland instead and said you were going to meet your girlfriend that you never met, they will give you a hooker visit visum with no questions asked!
