Don`t flame me Honestly a freind wants to have a bigger hard drive and lock it? Is there anyone in South of the UK/London area that can do this and if so what sort of £ we looking at. Thanks!!
Just go to Xbox scene and look around there. It's quite easy, and if you're afraid you'll mess something up, just try it on an older hard drive. If he has a soft mod, download Xboxhdm (or something like that). You need to copy a few select files into certain directories in the Xboxhdm folder. After that, create an iso image (there's a program included that does this). Burn that, and boot from it (with your computer hard drive unplugged, and with the subject hard drive in place - put it on Master, I think). From there you just copy your C and E drives. If the hard drive is bigger than 8 gigs, you'll have the option to partition the F. If this sounds a bit confusing, I probably didn't explain it very well - I did mine months ago. If he has a mod chip, you probably just need to find a hard drive that locks. You should be able to lock/unlock from the dashboard, unlike with a soft mod. Before you start any of this - BACK UP EVERYTHING. If you screw something up (the original hard drive, especially), there's a good chance the damage is permanent. If you lock the new hard drive by accident and lose the key, you should be safe, since Xboxhdm sets another password in case of accidents like that. Also, there's a list somewhere of lockable hard drives. You most certainly want to check that before you buy. You'll save money by doing all of this yourself, but if you want to pay someone then you'll spare yourself some headaches.
This is the site to check for HDD locking compatability: http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/ ...Personally I'd use summat like config magic to lock a new drive, although you could for instance use EvoX if your m8 is running such a dash? ...A lot is gonna depend on whether your m8's Xbox has been 'enhanced' or not ...Either way the jobs a 'no-brainer', your looking at couple of minutes work at the most
is it really worth modding an xbox.......could you get emulators and the such to run on it......i know the obvious thing to do is backup games....hmm maybe ill look into it
It depends on the person. For $180 you could have a spanking new modded Xbox Media Center. My Xbox plays videos my computer won't. It's also great to have downloaded a live concert and be able to watch it on your television. If you have TV-out on your computer and don't mind hooking up audio connections, I suppose it's all a matter of taste.
i think i would get it for the multimedia possiblities, im imaging a hefty price drop in retail xbox and modded ones come the launch of the 360....i hope
Buy a used one that (hopefully) isn't a 1.6 and do a TSOP flash. If you aren't confident with that (I was, until I couldn't find the solder points), then use a softmod. They're cheaper than buying a pre-modded Xbox.
