That's right. Sandisk Memory Sticks are better than the ones from Sony. They are faster, even faster than those new Sony High Speed models.

As a side note, Sandisk also make some great MP3 players with sound quality and features that put the Apple iSheep players to shame.

Yeah, but do you carry it on a nameless msduo that is likely crap? :p

As I note, I have downgraded craploads of PSP's for people at work, I couldn't get the SONY MS to write the firmware... whereas my trusty SanDisk did it everytime... only thing I can guess is read/write speed. Same was true of every SONY I tried.

Bought a 'SONY' OEM 4GB off ebay... didn't work at all, unrecognised etc... moral of the story is SANDISK!!!!!

Unlicensed is what I assume you mean as 'unbranded'.

How delicate and important is the data you intend to store on it? That should be how you weigh up the cost advantage of unlicensed memory sticks. If it's just for movies and mp3s, then I'd say go for it. So long as you have a backup on a HDD somewhere.

In reply to spehiap, you should be cautious of what you buy. Sony, SanDisk, etc are copied by the same Chinese manufacturers and sold as OEM. Chances are you got a fake.

Sandisk are a leading manufacturer with top quality products. I wouldnt call them 'fake'.

Fake pro duos are shocking, I speak from experience. a 1gigger wouldn't let me fill all it's memory and routinely corrupted (only used it in my phone for music).. one I bought wouldn't even fit into my phone and was so flimsy it actually fell apart.

Pay the extra for a named brand, only then can you trust it.

And even then make sure you do NOT buy it from ebay, ebay is swimming with nothing but fakes.

i had mixed experiences with unbranded memsticks.

i have one unbranded one (sony china fake, 2gb) working just well for almost 2 years now, although a little bit slow.

got a 4gb sony fake for a friend which stopped working after 2 months.

get a sandisk ultra 2 8gb and you are on the safe side!

You misunderstood. I did not call Sandisk fake. They are licensed.

What I am saying is that some of the really cheap 'OEM' sandisk or sony sticks you see on ebay are fakes, made in china.

Yeah i can second this, they look just like a sony or a sandisk on the outside, but its DEFINATELY not a sony or SD on the inside. How does the companies making these not get busted and shut down or something??

Dont go to Ebay for stuff like that, ever. Also, SanDisk is the best. Their USB thumbdrives are great and so is everything else. Kingston, stay away because their models do not last.

Also, Sandisk flash memory actually comes with a 5yr warranty; so even if it does blow up you can replace it for free :p

Yeah but even still they cant replace the data that was on it. Good luck getting the sandisk people to play Crisis Core for 40 hours to replace the save that you lost when it blew. I guess the moral of this story is BACK UP YOUR MEM CARDS. Ive taken to copying the contents of my MSDuo's to my laptop about every week or every other week.

No storage company is held responsible for the data lost.

Sandisk "Ultra" flash memory comes with a 10 year warrenty in Europe and some regions but lifetime in America. It only covers part failures so if you crack or drop it then your warrenty is worth bugger all but if it stops writing they will replace it. :)

Anyway what moron would use a tiny memory card to keep important data on? Apart from people that work in the government obviously?

People in the government still use floppy disks, believe me.
