Out of the member here, how many people use Unix and how many people use Windows as a primary operating system? Distribution/versions used?
...and that Linux isn't Unix. I suggest making the poll read: * Windows * Linux * Unix/BSD * Mac OS X * Other * I don't use a computer, biatch.
I use Ubuntu (8.04, which SUCKS thus far) Linux on my desktop and my Eee PC (7.10, which is all kinds of awesome). My desktop has Windows XP on another partition so I can play games.
I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 on my Lenovo Thinkpad T61 and it work really great. BTW it's the first version witch work well on my laptop. I've planned to use ubuntu when I buy it in july 2007 but nothing exept xp/vista was working on :S
Im dualbooting Ubuntu 8.04 and XP on my laptop and desktop, XP defiantly has the larger partition (linux partition being about 35gb on each computer) I use XP for games, modeling programs, etc. Ubuntu is definatly my play around OS, which right now I am setting up my laptop to build my own linux distro (maybe.) My secondary desktop (2001 dell demension 4400 with a p4 1.6ghz and 512mbram) is ubuntu but network installed (sort of my pseudo-server. My old Compaq DL580 server (the 50 fuckton thing on my dresser) will run some linux distro once i get off my ass and make it work. Windows = School/Play Linux = whatever the hell I feel like at the moment.
8.04 sucks? I haven't got to try it much yet. I tried installing it on my funky desktop and it for some reason made my temps go ridiculously high, so I got scared and ran away.
Ubuntu 4.10 on an ancient desktop (yes the original ubuntu!) Ubuntu 7.10 on my Acer Aspire laptop WinXP on Asus EeePC Win XP on Compaq Presario v2000 Win XP Tablet on Fujitsu Stylistic Win CE 2.11 on NEC Mobilepro 770 Fedora 6 on EeePC(runs off sd card) Win 95/98/2000/XP on everything else... oh and PSBuntu 7.10(no wifi) on the PS3
I don't know how the direct install of Ubuntu 8.04 is, as I just upgraded from 7.10. I had no problems until I "upgraded," but I don't care enough to reinstall. They're supposed to have most problems with things like Pulseaudio fixed by July.
Vista, I've grown up using Windows and I can't be bothered learning another OS breed to do the same thing.
I'm using Vista and not by choice either, mainly as most laptops come bundled with the licence and this laptop lacks workable drivers for some of the hardware for XP. Although I have done my best to make this machine look like Windows 95, including changing the god awful Vista intro music to the Windows 95 intro, used the Windows XP sounds and changed the theme to Windows Classic and made the Windows look as Windows 3.11 as possible. I'm sure if Microsoft middle management saw my machine they would have a heart attack. On other machines I have MS-DOS 6.2, Window 98, Windows 98SE and Windows XP.
Ya, I suppose I should have said "Unix based" and "Windows Based" operating systems, but most people got the gist of my question anyway. ^_^;
