[Unreleased] Tomb Raider 4 - The Times Exclusive Demo - v15.12.1999

Overview

Hello, here today I bring you an demo which was exclusive for "The Times". The demo itself was only released for the PC, I believe the PS1 version was canned due to the fact that the performance is not so great and there are several graphical issues where the PS1 engine hides objects it shouldn't be.

Despite the demo being 2 days prior to the final (final is 17.12.1999) There are several noticeable differences for example, all the secrets are not present and rooms are missing from the final. Originally, the level was impossible to complete but i decided to add 2 triggers to make the level completable.

I managed to repack and strip down some of the game core files to reduce the filesize!

This is a beta, and it was also cancelled it couldn't get any better could it?

Got it working correctly now, it was my emulator messing things up. :smile-new:

 

I'm not quite sure what you mean there, the gamewad was stripped of all additional levels from the retail game to reduce the size as it'd be useless to include those too. The Times Exclusive is nothing more than an exclusive demo only released on the PC so there is no extra content that is missing, everything is included in the upload.

I was just judging from this video here that it was the same release you have uploaded but with a ripped intro and buggy loading screen, maybe it is my emulator messing me about, anyway, thank you for the download! :smile-new:

 

That's strange, there shouldn't be any bugs at all. If you are using EPSXE it is known to have an issue with load screens in all of the Tomb Raider games as I have had the same issue before. So I mainly use PSXfin.

No, only (Tomb Raider 4 Gold) PC exclusive deal from London Times newspaper. no plan for PS1 at the time.

Correction, the exclusive demo "The Times" is NOT Tomb Raider 4 Gold. Tomb Raider 4 Gold was cancelled. How do you know that there were no plans for a PS1 version? IF there was none then care to explain why this exists right here for PS1? Here you go again with false claims with no evidence to back it up.

Well that case, I misunderstood. I got confused with the The Times Demo along with Tomb Raider 4 Gold. As you mention title as Unreleased . So this is unreleased version of Tomb Raider 4 Times demo as offical PS1 version ? or it just one of your ports you made to tranfer from PC to PS1 ?

How do I know there wasn't a planned for playstation version ! Well Sure hell it said PC exclusive, why would Core Design make it on PS1 port when knowing it gonna be PC exclusive in the place, that would be wasiting time and money.

Please correct me wrong here because I don't fully understand here.

If you mis-understood fair enough. However, the way you just said "calm your silly little ass down" is extremely inappropriate. I accept that you got confused with The Times exclusive demo. I don't quite understand what you mean by "or it just one of your ports you made to tranfer from PC to PS1" Could you explain this further?

As far as I am aware this is official stuff and was not made by me as it's origin is from internal development.

It was RELEASED as a PC exclusive however why Core Design ported it to the Playstation 1 is obviously because they were planning to reach a wider audience rather than just PC gamers. Quite frankly, WHY Core Design made a Playstation version is not any of anyone's business nor does it alter the fact that they did!

I don't really understand how exactly you know what Core Design's plans were, it's evident that since a Playstation version exists they were also planning to do a PS1 demo as well. So you should stop assuming all the time, if you think smartly. Why would someone know whether a game is going to be exclusive to one platform when it's not been decided yet? Exactly!

I don't see where this is going the conclusion is that Tomb Raider Times Exclusive demo is NOT Tomb Raider 4 Gold.

I'm Sorry calling you that inappropriate word and I will remove it. Maybe you should be less agressive on me. I doing my best with my shitty English which I can mislead to some people at sometimes.

I always thought Core design Dev's would have a brief meeting before making any deals of exclusive or not before actually making TR4 Times Demo. That way it would save time/ money and organisation. Again that is just my thought.


I thought you going to port TR4 Times from PC to PS1 with you coding/hacking skills like you did with the TR1 bonus from PC to PS1. Since then, you mention it is a Offical port stuff. So therefore it a unreleased version for PS1 as you mention in Thread title. Now I know.

Anyway, ignoring that troll, I'll thank you for the upload, bro. Legit non fake stuff like this is always welcomed.

 

Found a few things. The TOMB4.EXE file has the text "Gh0st Blade 2012" at the end, and there's a video by him on Youtube. The cheats from the retail game work, but the Level Select cheat loads the main menu.

 

I wasn't even aggressive in the first place, you just interpreted things wrong. And if you thought I was going to port TR4 times from PC to PSX you thought wrong. I don't have the time for that, it took a long time to port Tomb Raider Unfinished Business and there's not any interest in it. I don't see the point in changing the title I think it's fine as it's explained in the main post that it's for PSX anyway.
