Hi - I'm new here but I knew about this site and am pretty sure this is the place to get some help because I am totally stumped! I picked this up today at a Garage Sale today in my city and they had a bunch of gaming stuff, but everything else was "normal" - nothing unusual. However, I have ZERO idea what it is in regards to rarity.... Can someone help? Please
It's a prototype cartridge. Willing to bet whatever data was on the cart is gone since the window on the chip is exposed and god knows where it was rolling around. Try popping into a Gameboy and see if it's a prototype or just the final game.
Thank You... I will need to dig out my GameBoy and pray to the Nintendo Gods that it still works... If it doesn't (I guess likely :<) is it still worth anything and, if so, any guesses?
Can't give a number but someone will want it since it is a development cartridge and those are kinda rare.
If it doesn't work, 10-20$, they are fairly common to find. If it does, 50$+ is likely depending on the contents.
Go ahead and put a sticker over the circular window on the chip to prevent further damage/bitrot. Any UV light in the environment can further damage the contents of the chip.
Thanks everyone for your help...I broke out the GBA today and the cart works!! Boy, did I get lucky - granted, I didn't play it long. Yes, I will get a sticker on it ASAP. I saw no obvious differences to the stock game (which makes sense since this was just a port) but I understand it would take a bunch of work to make sure 100% doing a rom dump comparison, which is beyond my tool and skillset limits. I'll probably end up trading it to someone that will enjoy it more than I - going down this road (non-commercial stuff) wasn't something I was planning on ever doing...it's just a light hobby.
