Withing 30 days the server this site is on will be EOL, and I have to get a new dedicated machine up and running first. This means setting it up, buying new licenses and copying over the databases for all the sites. It costs me about $2000 a year to run the site. I will be buying a new license for VBB, with all the bells and whistles. Hopefully we can have per user inventories and a trader zone set up. Sort of like an ASSEMbay.com for user trades. File uploads, and best of all a site FTP. -ASSEMbler
Sounds great. Set up a Paypal account and I'm sure at least a lump of the fees will be covered by the members.
Sounds like some great new features could be implemented at the time of change. I really wasnt aware of the full cost of running a forum like this.
@ASSEMbler - i'd be happy to donate some $$ to help with the switch to the new server and to assure the future of the forum, as I'm sure other members will be also. PM me your PayPal details if you like and I'll get right to it
Kevin, you should put some Google ads or something in the forums, with the amount of traffic you get I bet it would easily rasie enough cash for the site to pay for itself. Maybe a sidebar along the right, wouldn't distract too much.
ooh ,no! ASSEMbler is great for many reasons, one of which is no F*ing adds. I'm sure we can all chip in a bit to keep the place running  Yakumo
count me in, you could do like gamedev have an optional premium member account.... maybe get first dibs on the ftp stuff, or a special forum access, dunno, just thinking out loud. my 2 cents
I d love to donate - too bad I m being charged 9.000 pounds for my LPC and I can barely afford food. The 9K goes to charity they claim, yet I wonder who's going to "charity" me?
Just saying that a small strip of google ads wouldn't "ruin" the site, if they were placed in such a way as to not be distracting (maybe a strip across the bottom or something.) I can tell you if it were my site costing me $2,000, then it wouldn't be here. Kevin is generous, but generosity only goes so far.
Damnit, I wish I was further with this damn uni project - I would have happily given you all your hearts desire. *sigh* If you gave me 6 months, I'd happily build a traders site into it.
