I finally gave my US version of Wip3out a go on my PAL PSone this arvo (stealth modchip fitted in stealth mode) and the game crashes when you go through the beam of light you push through at the start of the race. I remember reading a while ago that this might be a copy protection issue, but I figured an original US version should work fine on a stealth-modded PSone. For those wondering, I didn't get a PAL version because 50hz shits me to tears, and a stealth-modded PSone gets 4.43mhz colour on the non-RGB outputs (I prefer PAL colour to NTSC) and hasn't had any issues with any other game I've thrown at it. Any ideas on a solution?
Unfortunately I only have a PAL PSone and no US consoles to double-check I may not have been descriptive enough though - the redbook audio keeps without skipping a beat, it's the screen that just freezes on that exact moment. Pretty sure I tried it on another track, but I'll give it another test tonight and clean the disc, clean the lens and try other tracks. Will see what happens!
Not really - but I do know that the original PAL release of WO3 has exactly the same problem on a PSone - even using an original disc on a unmodified console. It's supposed to be copy protection, but it looks like something in the PSone prevents it from recognizing the disk as being valid. I don't know if the same thing applies to the US release - but from the sound of it maybe it does.
