Question. If I switch out the drive in my NR reader with a drive from a regular gamecube. Would I be able to use the region switch and play both US and JPN games? Has anyone ever tried? Thanks in advance.

Yes, you would be able to play either region. The magic is in the drive, not on the motherboard.

That seems like pretty much a waste of the NR though; you can region agnosticity on any Gamecube.

Thats not correct. PAL cubes do not have the japanese font/bios. Which means jap games do not play correctly - even with a modchip and they load. No a huge deal if you cant read japanese anyway though.

With NR Readers being as common as they are these days I dont see it as a waste. I asked this question because I love the color of the NR cube but dont have much use for it as an NR reader.

If you're going to do that, you might as well sell the NR drive on...or put the NR drive in the generic retail case and sell it on that way.

Well did the switch, which was a bitch not to lose all those tiny screws. Works and looks great with my BBA and GB Player attached. Some will cringe at the idea that I used my NR reader from SEGA to do the switch, but I think it gives it character. Now I seem to have an NR drive if anyone is interested, lol.
