I probably buy more games on XBOX Live Arcade than I do physical games. I was playing Pac Man Championship edition this morning and it's my opinion that it's the best Pac Man Ever. When I'm with Friends TMNT 1989 is awsome to play with them. and I have most of the Namco classics, Gyruss Contra Frogger. Got Lumines and Geometry wars but only have 1 achievement each in them.
i refuse to pay the over inflaited cost of those games, when you can usually buy the orginal for much cheaper, and besides which, the few demos i have tried on xbla are painful to play due to the controls
VC is pretty unplayable to me. Apart from being overpriced you get 480i washed out scaling on games that were 240p in original form. It's really a shame Nintendo decided on the cheap route. I wanted all VC games to be remakes of classics with updated graphics and sound but the with the same gamplay and levels. Really sucks they didn't pick up on this. Also, if you must sell emulated versions of Pac-Man, Donkey Kong and Galaga '88 then at least emulate the arcade version as they are always better than the console versions.
The VC only exists as a work around Copyright law. According to the DMCA it's legal to emulate a game if it and the hardware it runs on are no longer commercially available then a copy of said game may be made for Archival reasons. By Reissuing old games unaltered like they are on VC it preserves their copyright
I drink rum and sail the sea for looty! enough said - but I refuse to pay for what there are other means of getting - it goes against my survival and resourceful instincts
PSN and XBLA for me. Although I play XBLA more the PSN is just the same really apart theres not as many titles for it yet. This is just my opinion but the VC is a rip off I really can't believe there charging 9 pounds for an N64 game. I alreayd own all the best ones so I wont be paying 9 pounds for a game I already own
VC is one of the main reasons I could care less about the Wii. Even if I did get one for Secret rings and Nights what's the point 2 freakin games hardly a reason to get a last gen system in next gen clothing. XBLA however I'm loving alot of old and new favorites are on it.
The very definition of bias. When Nintendo offer their old and new favourites you "could care less", it's only there for a DMCA workaround (never mind that nearly five million VC games have been sold, i.e. massive profits); when Microsoft offer old and new favourites, you're loving it. Get a grip.
Admitably, I have been more interested in VC, XBLA & PSN then most things on next gen consoles. Personaly VC is still a total rip off but nintendo knows people will still buy it regardless of the price. XBLA has an amasing selection and very reasonable prices (all emulated classics must be $5 and new games are $10). PSN is just down right wicked. Sony is trying hard for big name titles (Tekken DR, Calling all Cars, ...) and you can install your games on up to 5 systems. Even more wicked is sony is tapping the vast library of ps1 games which can be played across the ps3 & psp. Actualy right now I am in heaven because I found out a way to buy stuff off the japanese PSN network. So the past two days I got Gunner Heaven (wicked game), Mr. Driller (I love mr driller series), U-SA (meh, ok puzzle game. Kurupoto is better but duh more recent) & Samurai Shodown Comp (Ugg loading screens). PSN JPN server also has many more wicked titles which are just growing. :noooo: Dude you're so wrong it hurts my head. Research the DMCA & Title 17 copyright laws. Emulation providing its build of legal means has nothing to do with it. Roms are the issue and unless you follow the strict guidelines of DMCA/Copyright Laws, you're doing illegal things (for example, you own game x, downloading the rom of it off the net is yes illegal). Anyways the VC exsist because of the projected profits nintendo sees off it and yes because of the sucess microsoft is seeing with XBLA. Hell yes microsoft deserves a shit load of credit for leading the charge on this stuff in the first place.
I just like the 360 arcade because of stuff thats hard to find like SOTN, the fact they are a little more playable on my HDTV, and that they had some features like better graphics or online play. Plus it has a lot of originals. VC would be super convenient to have all those on one system, but the prices seem kind of suckitude.
I had this debate before and it reached a Stalemate......I'll spare that. But I'm getting alot of I'm a fanboy shit and I guess it is deserved I stick up for the 360 alot. Virtual Console- I am a fan of roms and if you look at my collection thread you'll even see that I own alot of retro compliations. Nintendo is charging us 5,8. $10 for something we could get free with just google it. Granted we can't play them on our TV unless we have one with a VGA or DVI input or a TV outcard But the Emulators we can get for SNES, and N64 clean up and enhance the Graphics, SNES Games on ZSNES look way better than SNES games on an SNES. I don't have enough experence with N64 emulation to say it's better. I know a few wii owners who swore off VC once they hooked their PC up to their TV. Honestly though I have no expence with the classic controller to say if it's better or worse than the controllers for the consoles these games came out for (save for the N64 controller which I think was horrible) Gotta behonest though there isn't a good PC Engine Emulator out there......I'd probably download a few PC Engine games if/when I get a Wii. XBLA- the why pay for something you can get for free comment comes into play here but Microsoft is smart Virtual Console at most the games are 480p Live arcade scales up to HD so games look better older arcade games are given some enhancements (like the arrange mode on konami games) plus I'm an achivements whore How hard it is to get Achivements will determine if I get a game or not. On top of the old stuff we got some new stuff too something the VC doesn't offer. PSN- The expected answer is that it's a XBLA rip off. Honestly the only problem I have is I want it on my PSP so I can get PS1 games on the go. So far it's got some good games Calling All Cars looks fun Flow is trippy. You can freakin get Tekken DR on it..but I arleady have it on PSP and I think 5 is better but I digress. The fact that at one point I can get almost any PS1 game for my PSP is a good sell point they just gotta make it so we can download from our PSPs and if square gives us Einhander......
Well truth be told your acting very ign fanboyish. You jump in topics and go off topic with rants that nobody asked for. Also there is no need to stick up for 360 around here anymore since most on this board already are behind it. The only system being wrongfuly bashed atm is ps3 and your apart of that group. Now thats actualy a damn good responce. Also PSN is comming to PSP soon enough. It's been promissed and I know it's in the ultimate pipeline. When I say that I mean logging in and dl ps1/psp games/demo directly on the psp.
I hate downloadable only games, but recently I had to give up and buy the X360 version of Shivering Isles via Live and tried some of the XBLA games, which I found rather interesting (I prefer those originally designed for Live than ports like SOTN) so I bought XBLA Unplugged and I've been playing Geometry Wars since then. I agree PSN is some kind of XBLA rip off but I think they're trying to take those network games a bit further, with Warhawk, Calling All Cars or Pain as examples.
See, we totally disagree here. They don't look "better", they look different, and it's a matter of preference; I'd much rather play the real game on a real SNES. An emulator is a last resort for me. Anyway, sticking up for the 360's strengths is fine as long as you're honest about the other platforms as well. We all have favourites, but where it becomes hypocrisy is when you criticise one platform for one thing while praising another for the same thing. I'm sorry if I came off as combative but that sort of shit is immature, and as subbie's responses indicate it doesn't generally go down too well around here.
Well I haven't played that piss yellow SNES on my TV yet so I'm not entirely sure how it's going to look now. I have told people though as it relates to virtual console that I would rather have AC ACTUAL CONSOLE. 16 bit hardware is pretty cheap now software is going to be hard to get ahold of since EB and Gamestop are jackasses and won't carry old software used (but Gamecrazy does) The only real problem for me is going to be getting a PC Engine those things are pretty expensive and if I want it modded......
Overinflated costs? Perhaps in the case of the VC, but XBLA games are enhanced enough to display well on an HDTV and one of the biggest sellers for me are online co-op and leaderboards. In the 80's, one could only dream that we'd be playing a perfect Double Dragon with an online buddy in the comfort of our homes. $5 or $10 is well worth spending for something like this...even the score leaderboards add a lot to the experience particularly if you have good people on your friendlist...good competition. XBLA ftw.
