I used to borrow my Dad's Motorola, at least until it got stolen by some pikey Kosovan. Then I got my own phone - an Ericsson A1018S Coca Cola limited edition. You had to collect a stupid amount of ring pulls AND send money with them. I got most of my ring pulls asking friends for theirs at college and even rescuing them from the bin, as nobody could be bothered to save them!
I had one of those too. MC 820 seems to ring a bell.. Writing a text was an experience as it didn't do the regular multiple button press for a letter thing (so 222 made AAA instead of C - to get a C you had to hold the key down until it scrolled through ABC..) It was kinda slow too, and every menu had a shortcut code, which meant you could key in sequences then watch the phone catch up. Can't remember any, but it was stuff like Down 8 5 7 to put into silent or something Years later I had one of the first 3G phones in the UK that allowed video calls. It was a pretty big Nokia (I think) with a full keyboard and both in and outward cameras.
Damn right, I'd love a proper Android with slideout QWERTY. My Xperia Pro is showing its age, and I believe I lost it in travel a few days ago (or it's just lurking in my suitcase somewhere). Damn, this thread makes me long for the time when phones were less "smart", and more distinctive and original. Nowadays it's all touchscreens, Android/iOS, with a much smaller range of diversity among brands. Anyway, here's mine: Got it in 1999, it actually supported texting before my telco did! From there I went on to a Nokia 5110 (with vibrating battery, yay), 3330, Sony Ericsson T630i (a brilliant phone, with the multiplayer golf game over BT!), W810i, N82 (very much a fan still, very capable candybar smartphone with awesome camera), Nokia N97 and now the Xperia Pro.
